Dear Parents,

Today, we started with our Math Minute and then we went over a beginner lesson to area. We used pattern block units to measure the area of certain designs made with pattern blocks. I have the pattern blocks in the classroom to help students if they need hands-on, visual practice to get them started with this concept. Unit 4, Lesson 7 #1-6 are for homework if not finished from class time.

I also announced a Biomes Test next Thursday, February 15th, 2022. The Biomes test will cover the information in the students’ biomes booklets and they were told to read through and review this content. It will include some definitions, matching, and short-answer questions about the various biomes learned about in class through the booklet.

Then, I did a desk check, we had snack, and then students went out for recess.

After recess, we had a Simon James storytelling session and then I worked on some quotations practice with the students. Quotations can be a bit difficult at the start, but with practice, they will get the hang of it. I am teaching quotation usage because we are preparing to write our Social Studies stories and later in the term, fictional stories.

After lunch, we did some persuasive writing planning in a graphic organizer. Students had to come up with three reasons (with three details per reason) about whether or not students should get homework. This organizer is due tomorrow if not finished already in class.

Then, we had DPA and Gym. In Gym, we played tag, bench ball, and dodgeball. However, even after reviewing the rules mid-game, we still had quite a few injuries and had to cut Gym short.

Sincerely,

Ms. Wilks
