Happy New Year! 🙂
Today, we started off with putting our things back into our desks after Winter Break. The students have new seats in rows of two or three desks. We talked about safety procedures – hand washing, doing the Daily Health Check, sitting at own desks when eating. Students should stay home if they are feeling unwell and exhibit any symptoms. I am so happy that a lot of students completed some or all of the Extra Math Minute Challenge Booklet during Winter Break! That’s awesome!
We will be having our Math Test on Multiplication & Division (Unit 3) on Tuesday, January 18th, so students can start practicing for this and studying in the textbook to be ready for this. They are also encouraged to use their Pop Quiz from before the break to help them study as well.
Then, we played some rounds of Blooket on Multiplication & Division on the iPads to practice our Multiplication Facts after the long break and we did our Math Minute.
After, we had snack, I did a desk check, and students had indoor recess since it is quite slippery outside.
Following recess, we finished our Biomes Booklet: We read the Coniferous Forest, Desert, Answered the Desert Multiple Choice, Watched some videos on Deciduous Forests and drew/took notes on the page, and looked up which animals live in Freshwater, Saltwater, or Both. These pages can all be found in the Biomes Booklet. Then, we watched a bit of a video on FreshWater as part of the show “Our Planet” before lunch.
After lunch, we worked on our last poem, the “Triplets” poem. Students’ poetry book good copies will be due on Thursday this week. It is expected that students have coloured and completed all of the poems in their poetry books fully.
At the end of the day, we did our planners, cleaned up, had DPA, and then did some Badminton and cooperative activities in Gym.
Students will get new spelling words tomorrow, but I have posted the spelling words on the Spelling Word Page of this blog already in case you want to get a headstart: https://sd41blogs.ca/wilksm/spelling-words/ – the date of the next spelling test is Thursday, January 20th.
