Dear Parents,
Today, we started the day with some practice in apostrophes vs. plurals again. We took it up and then did a Math Minute. I gave students 1.5 minutes to fill in 50 questions for 2 times tables up to 5. We are continuing to work on our automaticity and students saw significant progress when given 90 seconds and after practicing for a couple of days. We took it up and students marked their own.
Following that, we played a Math Game with multiplication where students rolled a die and went forward a certain number of spaces. When they landed on a spot, there was a multiplication equation and students answered it. If correct, they got to add that many points to their score. We also started a multiplication colour by number as well. It is under the Math page on this blog if you would like to have your child practice even more – it is great for automaticity and the kids also really enjoyed this. The pictures that you can colour in, range from Among Us, to Minecraft, to Five Nights at Freddy’s to Christmas-themed pictures. There are also group murals that students can colour in as well and put together and we will be doing some of these soon. Great practice for multiplication speed.
After, we had snack and recess. Following recess, we did a reading on the tropical rainforest and talked about what we had read. We also highlighted the most important points of the reading. Then, we had a class meeting.
Following lunch, we talked more about text-to-self connections, shared our connections, and wrote another Text-to-Self Connection to a story about Basketball. It is always great to hear about the students’ cool connections to stories and we are continuing to add detail in our connections and get more specific. If students are not done writing their connections, it is homework tonight.
At the very end of the day, we had DPA and then students started on their Health summaries for our Healthy Eating Unit. I will be marking these, but they are not for homework yet.
Reminder: Spelling Test tomorrow and no school on Friday for the PRO-D Day.
Sincerely,
Ms. Wilks
