Dear Parents,
Today, we started off with applying our vocabulary of perpendicular and parallel to 3D shapes and how to label this on 3D shapes. We reviewed the difference between faces, edges, and vertices as well. Then, students worked on:
G5: pages 238 & 239 #10-12
G4: pages 238 & 239 #1-4, 7
It is homework if not done in class.
Then, we had snack and went for DPA. After DPA, we had a hold & secure drill practice. Then, we worked on labelling two new parts of the cell: the ribosomes and the endoplasmic reticulum on our plant cell. After, Grade 5’s worked on their digestive system booklet and Grade 4’s worked on their Animal Adaptations booklets and looked up various animals that fall into the monotremes, placental, and marsupials categories. These completed booklets are due on Wednesday if not already done and will be marked.
After lunch, I differentiated between telling vs. showing in personal narrative writing. I gave the students a few example sentences: “My dad and I went to the pool.” and transformed that sentence by using specific language, imagery, exciting words, and more details to hook in my readers. Then, I had students re-write two prompt sentences to make them more interesting to capture the interest of the reader rather than just state that an event happened. Then, students worked on “putting their hook to the test” and continuing to write the rising action in their personal narratives.
At the end of the day, students worked on Art and did their rugs.
Spelling test on Thursday 🙂
Sincerely,
Ms. Wilks
