Dear Parents,
This morning, we started off with a Math lesson and defined the words: adjacent (sides), congruent, parallelogram (shape that has two pairs of opposite sides that are equal and parallel) and practiced sorting shapes again. We also explored nets and I tested students by drawing various nets and asking them what 3D shape it created.
Textbook work:
Grade 5: pages 232-233 #1-3, 5, 7
Grade 4: page 231 #1-4
This is due Monday if not done.
After, we had snack and students went to Music. Then, we had DPA and Gym. In Gym, we played a frisbee scoring game in hoops and then played a hopping hoop game which was really fun.
After lunch, we talked about dialogue some more and editing for quotation marks, capitalization, punctuation, and indenting and making a new paragraph for each time the speaker changes. Then, I explained how to write a dialogue lead (hook) and a background lead (hook) for their personal narratives and students completed a dialogue lead and background lead for their personal narratives. They are making great headway with this!
Students’ weekend journal is: Write a story about two sisters or brothers that were separated at birth. Do they meet or not? What happens? G5: 1.5 pages and G4: 1 page. Remember to indent, use quotation marks properly, and write in the past tense.
Then, students had community time 🙂 Literature Circle work is also due on Tuesday.
Have a great weekend!
Sincerely,
Ms. Wilks
