Dear Parents,
Today, we started off with reading a bit of “Wonder” and then I explained how to find a fraction of a set. For example, if we wanted to find out what 2/3 of 9 is, you would take the total number of counters/objects in the set, which is 9 in this example, and then break these counters into three groups. Then, you would count the number for two of the groups. There would be 3 counters in each group and 2 groups of counters counted and therefore 2/3 of 9 is 6. I also talked about decimals (equivalent decimals, e.g. 0.8 and 0.80) and how to relate fractions and decimals together. For example, 1/20, you would find the equivalent decimal by making the denominator 100. So you would multiply the top and the bottom by 5 and the answer would be 5/100 or 0.05. Students worked on their textbook work and if it is not done, it is due tomorrow.
After Math, students had snack and DPA. After DPA, they presented their Social Studies presentations and did a wonderful job! I was so impressed with their projects and presentations! Then, we worked on our dot artwork, which is due next Monday. We continued the presentations after lunch and then the kids had their extra DPA after recess, which they earned by gaining class points.
Just a reminder that the spelling test is on Thursday. The students’ persuasive writing rough copy is also due tomorrow. Valentine’s cards are due tomorrow if students want them handed out on Friday, as we need to isolate them for a few days before handing them out as per protocol.
Have a good night!
Sincerely,
Ms. Wilks
