Dear Parents,

Today, we started off the day with talking about Indigenous spirit animals and the character traits that each animal exemplifies. Then, we learned a bit about the history of Aboriginal Dot Artwork and looked at some examples.

After, I gave the students a Math pop quiz today which I will mark and give back as soon as possible for students to study for the final unit test.

Following, we went outside for DPA and then we worked on our own dot artwork of a chosen spirit animal. We also reviewed the history of residential schools and the negative consequences of these schools on Indigenous children and related that to the recent prevalence of the Black Lives Matter movement in the media.

After lunch, we did our Daily 5 stations and at the end of the day went over residential schools a bit more and started creating hearts for our heart garden to represent how we can avoid making the same mistakes and continue reconciliation in the future with First Nations peoples.

Just a reminder that the spelling test is this Thursday.

It is also black shirt day on Friday to symbolize racial equality and the Black Lives Matter movement.

Sincerely,

Ms. Wilks
