Dear Parents,
This morning, we started off with reading “Wonder” and then I had the Grade 4’s work on page: 100 #1-7, 9 since it was a review of what we had already learned. I briefly reviewed it with them, before I called the Grade 5’s to do a lesson on compatible numbers (rounding to make easier numbers that end in 0) and to practice introducing double-digit and triple-digit multiplication. Then, the Grade 5’s were sent to work on pages 86-87 #1-3, 5-8.
Then, we had Music and then went outside for DPA.
After DPA, we worked on Social Studies. The Grade 4’s read with Mr. D about coniferous forests and highlighted important portions. I worked with the Grade 5 on a fun, new survival game project, which I started to introduce today. Students had to pick 3 items to try and survive in the middle of the ocean and later we took it up to see whether they survived or not depending on how many points they were awarded. This will be the start to a brand new project on natural resources and sustainability.
After lunch, we went over a new poem type: 5 senses and students created a poem for 5 senses and for acrostic (which we went over last week). They are to write their good copy in their poetry books and decorate it according to the theme of their poem. These books will be marked when we are done all of the pages as we do some day-by-day.
At the very end of the day, we did a lesson comparing Canada’s Food Guide’s old and new edition. We talked a lot about the different kinds of foods that would fit into each category, how the food guide has changed or stayed the same, and then they drew out what a balanced meal might look like based on their food preferences.
Just a reminder that we have library tomorrow – I forgot to remind the kids.
Have a good night!
