Hello everyone 🙂 I hope you had a restful and wonderful long weekend!
Although it was rainy this morning, it brightened up so we were able to go outside and get some fresh air 🙂
Today, we started out by taking up the Math test that was handed out this morning (already posted on Fresh Grade last week) and we went over the questions and their answers. Then, I reviewed how to compare numbers with the symbols: <, >, and = and the different forms: expanded form, standard form, and written form to represent different numbers. The homework today is:
Grade 4’s: pages 40-41: #2-10
Grade 5’s: pages 45-46 #1-10 (not including 5)
If students did not finish it, it is for homework.
Then, students went to Music.
When they came back, Grade 5’s used the computers to continue their research projects while the Grade 4’s and I stayed in the classroom and watched a video to observe the different terrain of the physical regions of Canada. We made notes in our provinces booklets of what different landforms were in each group of provinces/territories and compared the different regions.
After lunch, we started our Daily 5 program (it is more like a Daily 3 this year as there are only three groups and activities on three of the days). The other two days will be used for whole class writing lessons. The three different activities for the week are: guided reading with the teacher (We will be reading either “Holes” or “Charlotte’s Web”), spelling worksheet practice, and journal writing on a particular topic. This allows me the chance to read with groups of students while others are independently or as a group working on a different literacy skill. Students will rotate throughout the week to each of these activities (unless there are PRO-D Days or Holidays). Today, I read with the red group. We started the book, “Holes.”
At the end of the day, we used watercolour to finish off our “Starry Night” Artwork. They looked so great! Students were also given a bit of time if they were done to decorate their Art portfolios to hold their beautiful pieces of artwork.
Some Notes:
-Just a reminder that it is library tomorrow, so students should bring their books for exchange (our library day will generally change from week to week).
-The spelling test is also on Thursday, October 15th, so students should be studying for that as well.
-As well, I am asking for any wrapped candy donations as we will be making piñatas again this year. I have bought some candy for the kids, but I can only afford so much, so I am asking if anyone wants to bring in candy, they are welcome to in order to stuff our piñatas even more. This is totally voluntary! 🙂 Anything given is greatly appreciated.
-Students need to come dressed for the weather – some students are getting so wet outside. They need a rain jacket, boots, and warm clothes, especially during cold and flu season in addition to the pandemic.
It was a great day!
Sincerely,
Ms. Wilks
