Dear Parents,
Today, we continued reading “Castle in the Attic” and then we worked on Lesson 13 in our textbooks in subtracting tenths. Just a reminder that we have our Math quiz on decimals on Monday and we will do a review tomorrow so the students all know what will be on the test.
After DPA & Snack, we took notes on a powerpoint presentation I presented on phases of the moon. We studied what waxing and waning mean and how the moon cycles through different degrees of visibility. We talked about last/first quarter moons, new/full moons, crescent moons, and gibbous moons. Then, I had the students make the moon phases with Oreo cookies! They were able to use popsicle sticks to change the amount of icing on each moon phase to depict the various moon phases in the cycle. They had a lot of fun doing this in groups 🙂 Then, they drew out and labeled the moon phases in their “Moon Books.”
After lunch, we worked on creating our own advertisements for pre-existing companies/products to practice creating our own ads by using different strategies such as slogans, big letters, bright colours, comparisons, etc. We talked more about various strategies to use to make your company look good and to persuade others to buy your product. The kids did a great job on this and when they were done they worked on their ship building project.
At the end of the day, Ms. Berto came in to do a lesson for writing on voice and adding your voice into your writing to make it interesting.
A note: if you have a Science World pass, please let me know, you only need to pay $12 instead of $24 for the trip. Please bring back the forms for Science World by Monday! We are also still looking for parent volunteers as now I only have two.
Sincerely,
Ms. Wilks
