Dear Parents,

Today, we started off the day with Gym class with Ms. D’s class and played a few fun variations of dodgeball. Then, we reviewed what will be on the quiz for Math on Monday for decimals including adding tenths, subtracting tenths, depicting fractions in decimal and word form, colouring in hundredths charts to depict decimals, colouring in tenths on a tens block, and equivalent decimals.

After snack and DPA, we worked on taking up the fill in the blank on the different moon phases, watched some videos on solar eclipses, and talked about the difference between solar eclipses and lunar eclipses and how they are caused. We talked about the words “umbra” which is the dark, full shadow caused by the eclipse and the “penumbra” which is the partial shadow, it made us think of the word umbrella because “umbra” means shadow in latin, which reminds us of shading us from the rain. Then, we watched some fun songs on youtube about the moon phases, planets, and dwarf planets. After lunch, we worked on reading a passage about solar eclipses, deducing the main point and taking two supporting points form the text to prove the main message of the passage.

After that, we worked on creating advertisements for the students’ own made-up candy bar as a way to continue practicing making advertising. They need to finish this advertisement for Monday if they are not done, fully coloured. Then, we went to buddies and did a St. Patrick’s Day craft with the little buddies. At the end of the day, we had community time.

The students have a weekend journal due on Monday: “If you had the chance to go to Mars, but could not come back, would you? Why or why not? What would you need to bring? (1/2 page – 3/4 of a page).

Science World forms are due by Monday since our field trip is already on Wednesday, please don’t forget!

The Math quiz is also on Monday!

Sincerely,

Ms. Wilks
