Dear Parents,
To start off the day, we worked on learning about Juan Ponce de Leon. We learned that he traveled with Christopher Columbus to explore and to Puerto Rico to find gold. He discovered Florida as well. We talked about the negative interactions/consequences of actions between European Explorers and Indigenous peoples and examined ethics and how history can be viewed from different perspectives. Students filled in information in their passports and the complete passport is due on Friday – if information is missed, it needs to be researched at home and filled in with the link to the website used.
After snack & DPA, we went to the library.
After lunch, we had Gym and played some explorer games: We played ‘Shipwreck’ using the ship directions and we played an explorer version of “Caterpillars” where students have to work together to use hoops to get to the other end of the Gym the quickest. Then, we played one round of “Infected.”
After Gym, we read a new myth about Paul Blondin, analyzed the moral of the story, and the students continued to work on their own myths.
After recess, we had a class meeting where we read the story, “The Girl Who Never Made Mistakes” and my hope was to show students that making mistakes is okay. Then, the students worked on their rug projects at the end of the day – I am very excited about this project 🙂
We have our Math Quiz tomorrow and passports are due Friday!
Sincerely,
Ms. Wilks
