Dear Parents,

Today, we watched some more Winter Break presentations and read more of “Castle in the Attic” as a class. Then, the students created wallets for their upcoming money shop project! The students were later today given $20 of money and the job of creating a job of handmade items in which they will compete to make the largest profit of money. They will be accountants for their own shop and calculate how much they spend and make as well. They will learn through this exercise how to make good sales, fair deals, and continue to practice making change and money calculations. The students had music before lunch.

After lunch, we worked on how to model different money amounts using the fewest/smallest amount of coins/bills and explored different ways of modelling $100 with coins and bills. The students worked on creating their shops to get ready for our “open shop days”.

At the end of the day, we worked on Social Studies and worked on learning how to take notes without plagiarizing, but summarizing the most important points. We read about “Coastal Communities” and will continue to work on note-taking as a lot of the students had difficulty with this concept.

The students have to complete their Tuesday energy action today for homework and their spelling test is on Thursday!

Sincerely,

Ms. Wilks
