Dear Parents,

Today was a great day! The students were very quiet and listened very well and got a lot of points for their candy reward chart 🙂 I’m so proud of them!! I came in late from a meeting after lunch and they were sitting inside quietly at their desks. It was amazing!

We continued volleyball in Gym and practiced our serves.

We worked on a new Math lesson today on pages 96-97 and questions #1-7 are for homework if not done. For the Math lesson, we focused on explicitly and outwardly showing our thinking when calculating multiplication questions. One strategy described in the book is breaking down big multiplication questions e.g. instead of 7 x 9 doing 5×9 = 45 and then adding it to 3 x 9 = 27 to get the final answer of 63. I repeated this on the board for students who were still having difficulty conceptualizing this – the point is to make easy numbers to figure out the Math problems.

Then, I introduced our biome competition game that we will be playing based on the game “Settlers of Catan” – the students will compete in teams to use resources from these physical regions in order to build villages and conquer the map! 🙂 I’m very excited – it’s pretty complicated but I am sure it will all come together and be a lot of fun.

Then, we had our Daily 5 stations and then buddies where we read with our little buddies.

At the end of the day, the kids had community time 🙂

For homework, the students also have journals due Monday – “Write about your favourite vacation you have been on” – 1/2 page to 3/4 page.

Have a good weekend!
