Hope everyone had a great holiday 🙂 (hopefully you caught up on extra sleep and ate a ton of food like I did!)
Today, we expanded on our lesson from Friday. We talked about rounding to the nearest ten and hundred (if a three digit number for example ends in _50 or higher, it rounds up e.g. 350 -> 400, meanwhile an example rounding down might be 349 -> 300). If a two digit number is 50 and greater (up to 99), it would round up to 100. For a three digit number rounded to the nearest ten, it would be 347 -> 350, because the number in the one’s space, the 7 is greater than 4 – 5+ rounds upward and <4 rounds down. The students have a mystery picture which they need to colour based on the legend – it allows them to practice rounding to the nearest hundred to reveal a picture – this is due tomorrow.
We also started making a coat of arms today in Art to symbolize ourselves as part of our Medieval Times unit that we are starting!
I am started guided reading groups this week during our Daily 5 schedule, which will allow me to work with small groups of kids on reading and also guided writing depending on the week.
Our next spelling test is also on Thursday, October 24th. I will post the list on Fresh Grade – it is words 21-30.
We also have library tomorrow – bring your books for book exchange!
Lastly, I am looking for yarn donations – we will be knitting our own Christmas ornaments (hopefully!) and doing some rug making. If you have any laying around that you are not going to use, it would be much appreciated! (just simple yarn, not the furry/fuzzy ones – those are kind of confusing to knit with).
Have a good night! 🙂
I will buy some yarn on Friday, hope that’s not too late?
Hi Fei,
It’s not too late at all, that would be great but don’t worry about buying it – it was just if you had some already! 🙂
