Silhouette All About Me Posters!

Division 8 students are bringing home their silhouettes to fill in with all of their favourite things.
Students have choices of how they can fill in their silhouettes. They can draw the images or cut out pictures from magazines, brochures, newspapers, or print off images from the computer.
Decorate with images of all of your favourite things!
Food, activities, places, people, animals, holidays, etc.

TERRY FOX RUN 2019

Nelson students participated in our 30th annual Terry Fox Run on Fri. Sept. 20th. After one week of fundraising, bringing in Toonies for Terry & collecting pledges, we raised an incredible amount of money for the Terry Fox Foundation!
Way to go Nelson!! We are the 2nd highest fundraising elementary school in Burnaby with fundraising totals over the last few years being:

2015 ~ $1,967          2016 ~ $2, 200
2017 ~ $2, 802          2018 ~ $2, 023
Nelson students will find out what their fundraising total this year is soon and will be rewarded for all their hard work!

My Special Grandparent

Today Division 8 and 9 students were read Shi-Shi-Etko and talked about the importance of grandparents and other elders in the lives of young people. Students are completing this sheet about an important grandparent in their life. Who are they, what are their interests and what have they taught you? Please go over the questions with your child and share any information that would be helpful with completing the activity.

Wednesday
3:20-4:00 Ms. Watt will be in her classroom to answer any questions regarding classroom routines and expectations.
4:00-5:00 Presentation in the gym regarding new assessment and reporting.

Thursday
2:30-3:30 Presentation in the gym regarding new assessment and reporting.
3:30-4:30 Ms. Watt will be in her classroom to answer any questions regarding classroom routines and expectations.
4:30-6:00 Sign up for a 5 minute meetings to share information about your child.

Spelling Begins Today!

Our first Spelling words of the year are our classmates names! It’s always great knowing how to spell our friends names, practice for Valentines etc., and Ms. Watt will be using them in our dictation sentences throughout the year. This paper comes home today and students will be tested on the names next Wednesday. Star of the Week!

Starting next week we will have a Star of the Week in our classroom. They will create a poster to share with the class and take home Geoffrey the Giraffe for a week of fun.  I can’t wait to learn more about all of you and hear all about Geoffrey’s adventures!

Terry Trivia!

Starting Monday, students will have the opportunity to win a prize by correctly answering a trivia question about Terry Fox! 
Terry Trivia will happen during morning announcements Mon 16th -Fri 20th and students have until 12:25 to submit their answer to the box on the office counter. At 3:00pm Ms. Watt will draw the names of one primary student and one intermediate student and their names will be announced. Winners can come to Room 203 after the 3:05 bell to claim their prize. I can’t wait for a full week of celebrating this incredible Canadian hero!

Toonies for Terry

Nelson’s Terry Fox run will take place Friday at 1:45pm.  Please join us at 1:30 for a short assembly to remember Terry, a warm up and then off on our run!
All this week Nelson students and teachers have been challenged to bring in at least one toonie and have the fundraising goal of $2,500, topping last year’s fundraising total of $2, 029.75
