Earth Day

Yesterday, April 22nd, was Earth Day! We’d usually be gearing up for our Community Cleanup around Nelson, so I hope that everyone gets a chance to get out for a neighbourhood walk with their family.
If you’d like to watch a cute Earth Day themed video click HERE. Warning though, if you have younger siblings, you may have to watch it a dozen or so times if they like it as much as Kennedy does 🙂 It’s pretty catchy.
There’s also a mini-book about Protecting the Earth to read through. Afterwards, please click on comment at the bottom of this post and answer the question, What are you going to do to protect our earth this April?
Lastly, please read through the Earth Day Monthly News article below, complete the answers (full sentences when not fill in the blank) and email it to me!

Friday Letters

Every Friday I would love for you to write a letter to me about your week!
Using all you have been learning in your weekly letters home on Fridays, I’d like you to now share with me! (I think many of you brought home your Friday Journals before Spring Break) There are ideas on the left (click for a closer look), but you may write about anything you’d like about your week, your school work or other fun you get up to. I can’t wait to hear from all of you!

Hands On Games

One of best, and the most fun, ways to practice our math skills is with hands on math games. I’ll be posting many of the games we’ve already played in class so everyone should be familiar with them and eager to teach their parents or siblings how to play!
These games will require dice and/or a deck of cards to play, so if you already have them, great! If you’re like most of us and don’t, please try to borrow or buy some to use. Here is a template to make your own dice Paper Dice Template which is also an option. Games will require counters as well, but anything from coins to rocks can be used. Be creative!

Clear+the+Board
Connect Four Addition
DoublesPlusOneBingo
Roll Climb and Slide along with Roll Climb and Slide Sheet
Sink or Swim
Start with your counter on the start bubble. Roll 2 dice and add them together. If the answer is even, move up towards RESCUED, if the answer is odd, move down towards EATEN.

If you don’t have access to a printer, please continue using the online Math Games posted under the MATH tab and I’ve put links to some favourites right under the MATH tab under Math Games!

Spelling Tests

For those families that would like to give a test at the end of the week, here is the paper we used in class Spelling Test Paper as an option. Please also let me know if you’d like me to send you a few Review Words and the Sentences each week. I can quickly email them to you so prying eyes don’t spot them on the blog 🙂 Either leave a comment on this post or send me a quick email and I will start sending them to you!
