Terry Fox T-shirts!

Hello Nelson families!
As part of our fundraising for The Terry Fox Foundation this week there’s an opportunity for you to purchase Terry Fox t-shirts to have to wear on our school run day this Friday, September 24th.

The T-shirts are extra special this year. They are teal in colour, and share the message of ‘Try like Terry’ in three languages: English, French, and the Métis language of Michif. Click on the above picture for a closer look.
Youth shirts are $15 and adult shirts are $20.
There is no shipping or tax and 75% of the price of every shirt sold benefits cancer research.
If you are interested, please pay on Nelson’s School Cash Online and have your order submitted to your child’s teacher by end of day, Wednesday, September 22nd.
T-shirts will be distributed by Ms. Watt on Friday morning, in time for the afternoon’s run.
Thank you so much for your support!

School Supplies

Tomorrow, Wednesday September 15th, Nelson students will be starting in their new classrooms. Please ensure your child comes prepared with all of their school supplies for the year. Do not keep extra supplies at home as your child will need them as they run out and cannot share with other students during the pandemic. All supplies provided for your child will be stored for them until needed.
The list of School Supplies needed this year can be found on our school website HERE
Please let me know if you have any concerns.
Thanks for your continued support,  Ms. Watt

What is the Story of Your Name?

Hello Grade Threes! Below are the questions you took home last night to answer. Here are the answers from my mom. I can’t wait to hear all of your wonderful name stories today!

My Name: Stephanie Danielle
Who was I named after? Why? You weren’t named after anyone.
Why did you choose my name? I liked the sound of the name and wanted something unique. At the time I didn’t know any family or friends with the name.
What does my name mean? crown or garland (Greek origin)
Was I named before before or after I was born? Before
Were you considering other names for me? Yes! I really liked Charlotte but it wasn’t very popular. I wanted to name you Amy but then your initials would be A&W, like the restaurant. I also liked Vanessa but your initials would be VW, like the car. Jennifer was considered as well but your uncle had just married a girl named Jennifer and I didn’t want two Jennifers in the same family.
I would have liked a more German name (my mom is from Germany) like Angelika, but I didn’t think people would pronounce it correctly, after having my own name, Regina, mispronounced for years.
I think the name Stephanie suits you very well!

Happy Halloween!

HappyHalloweenPictureLoveItI hope everyone had a tons of fun on Saturday with your family and/or friends!! I missed seeing everyone at school in their costumes, but I hope you all had fun celebrating with your friends. Kennedy & I went for a short Trick or Treating around the spooky neighbourhood houses of my friend Fiona and her son, Nolan. It was so cool to see everybody’s creativity in handing out candy during covid. All of the houses we visited had candy chutes from either their balcony or front door, people throwing candy off of balconies, tables with pre packaged candy bags or they were using long tongs to hand out their candy to trick or treaters.

What costumes did you wear to school or out Trick or Treating!? Send your pictures to Ms. Watt at stephanie.watt@burnabyschools.ca
