End of Year Band Concert

K is for KERNELS

 ~ KERNELS of popcorn!
We popped some popcorn in an old fashioned hot air popcorn popper, the one that Miss Watt used as a Grade 3 student herself! It was so cool to see it close up instead of waiting outside a microwave!
We then invited Mrs Roberts to join us in watching two heart warming short films called In a Heartbeat and Out, both celebrating diversity and love.

Butterflies!!

We released our butterflies today and luckily got a picture with a few before they flew off into the beautiful bushes of Nelson. Click HERE to see our photos!

J is for JUMPY SCIENCE

Poppin_Rockets_0128 ~ JUMPY Poppin Rockets! Science with baking soda & vinegar!
We created a chemical reaction in a film canister! The vinegar reacts with the baking soda and produces carbon dioxide gas. Pressure builds up until the small canister can no longer contain the gas. The lid pops off, the canister shoots up into the air, the gas escapes, and the pressure is released.

Looking forward to celebrating with ernels tomorrow!

H is for HATS and I is for ICKY SCIENCE

~ We took the opportunity today to shade ourselves from the sun, break school rules and wear our favourite HATS all day long!
~ ICKY messy fun with Oobleck! Science with cornstarch and water!

Oobleck is a non-newtonian fluid. That is, it acts like a liquid when being poured, but like a solid when a force is acting on it. You can grab it and then it will ooze out of your hands.
Oobleck gets its name from the Dr. Seuss book Bartholomew and the Oobleck where a gooey green substance, Oobleck, fell from the sky and wreaked havoc in the kingdom.
