Halloween at Nelson

I hope everyone is looking forward to celebrating the spooky season at Nelson tomorrow! We will be starting with a costume parade at 9:00 and then the intermediate assembly followed by the primary assembly. Division 8 will be performing the Monster Mash at both assemblies and I will be recording it for families to watch afterwards. I’m so proud of the work all the work your kids have done learning the dance. After the assemblies, we’ll be doing some work before our Halloween party in the afternoon.
If your child would like to wear their costume at school, please have your child arrive at school wearing it so they are ready to go at the bell for the festivities. They are more than welcome to come with a change of clothes so they can change out of their costume after the assemblies and keep it clean for Trick or Treating or other activities Monday evening. I will keep them safe and dry in the classroom.
If you would like to bring something to share with the class during our afternoon party, please ensure it’s individually bagged or packaged.
The PAC will also be selling Halloween treats on Monday to raise money for Grade 7 activities. Please bring your loonies and toonies for some spooky treats!

Nelson’s Pumpkin Patch

Pumpkin Patch Time! Division 8 got an opportunity to pick the perfect pumpkin from our pumpkin patch on Wednesday. The sun was shining and there were so many perfect pumpkins to choose from. Thank you PAC for the perfect post-patch treats!!

There is a can of candy. It has 10 candies. Someone ate 5. How many left? ~ Audrey
There are 6 candies. Someone took 1 candy. How many are left? ~ Adelyn
10 pieces of candy. 5 disappeared. How many left? ~ Sameera
10 pieces of candy in the box. 5 got eaten. How many pieces of candy are there left? ~ Ruby
There was 1 lovely candy in the candy jar. I added 4 more. How many candies in the candy jar? ~ Liam

Save the Turkeys!

Poor turkeys don’t want to be eaten on Thanksgiving, so Division 8 students were given the task of disguising their turkey! Using anything they could find around home, they dressed their turkeys so that they wouldn’t be found and put on the table for Thanksgiving dinner.

The turkeys are now safely hidden in our classroom. *whew!*

Cross Country Intramurals

Nelson students in grades 3, 4, 5, 6, & 7 participated in our annual Cross Country competition on Thursday, October 20th. Students ran around the whole block, ending with a sprint towards the finish line at our playground. Division 8 had lots of fun racing for the 1st time against other grade 3s and all did an awesome job!
