Remembrance Day

Division 8 & 9 presented at Fridays Indigenous Veterans Day assembly and did a wonderful job. They spoke of the painting on the left by Indigenous artist Mike Holden, of the Cote First Nation in Saskatchewan. It depicts Chief Joseph Dreaver (1881–1978). Chief Dreaver was a decorated soldier who served in both world wars.

Halloween at Nelson

I hope everyone is looking forward to celebrating the spooky season at Nelson on Thursday! It’s going to be a busy, exciting day!!
If your child would like to wear their costume at school, please have your child arrive at school wearing it so they are ready to go at the bell for the festivities. No masks and weapons allowed. They are more than welcome to come with a change of clothes so they can change out of their costume after the assemblies and keep it clean for Trick or Treating or other activities Thursday evening.
I will keep them safe and dry in the classroom.

We will be having a Halloween assembly at 9:15 during which we will be performing a dance to Ghostbusters with Div. 8’s Grade 3s! You’re welcome to join us at the assembly to watch us perform. I will also be taking a video of it for families that are unable to attend. I’m so proud of the work all the work your kids have done learning the dance during the past few weeks. A video with the dance moves can be found on our class website.
After recess, we will be walking to St. Michaels care home to sing to the residents there. Its a tradition I continued on with after Mrs. Lentz retired from our school and we have been doing it now for over 20 years! The seniors love seeing the kids in their costumes and look forward to our visits every few months.
After lunch we will be joining the other primary classes for a Spooky Dance in the gym. Ms. Wen’s class will be leading the primaries in different dances and there will be lots of time to free dance as well.
For the last hour of class, we will be celebrating Halloween with some free time in the classroom. If your child would like to bring something to share with the class during our afternoon party, you’re more than welcome to but its absolutely not required. Please ensure it’s individually bagged or packaged.

Any questions, please contact me at stephanie.watt@burnabyschools.ca
As always, thanks so much for your support!
