The Nelson Olympics started on Friday with an opening ceremonies orchestrated by the one & only Mr. Gurniak. After parading in with our house teams we watched a slideshow of the adventures & activities of Nelson students during the 2010 Vancouver Olympics. The Nelson Olympic flag was raised, the torch was lit & all students recited the Olympic Oath.

Using pictograms to represent Olympic Games sports started with the London 1948 Games. This years were adapted from those used in the 1980 Moscow Olympics. These “patchwork” versions use a combination of 16 ornaments of the most famous national crafts in Russia.
