Terry Fox T-shirts!

Dear Nelson families,
As part of our fundraising for The Terry Fox Foundation, starting next week there is an opportunity for students and their family members to purchase Terry Fox t-shirts in order to have them to wear on our school run day on Friday, September 20th.
The design is shown above and is black with rainbow lettering.
Youth shirts are $15 and adult shirts are $20.
ADULT DRY-FIT OPTION IS SOLD OUT.

There is no shipping or tax and 75% of the price of every shirt sold benefits cancer research.
If you are interested, please have your order submitted to Miss Watt by Monday, September 16^th. CASH ONLY.

Grade 7 Fundraiser

Every Tuesday until June 11th the Grade 7s will be selling bags of chips for $1.00 at recess and lunch.
Every bag sold will help to raise money for their Leaving Ceremony.

Terry Fox Total!!

Yay Nelson!! I have just received word of our grand total for our Terry Fox Run in September. A big thank you to our top fundraisers this year: Kelsey from Ms. Marino’s class, Rowan from Mrs. Heighton’s class, Tessa from Ms. Gatenby’s class and Dakota from Miss Tsakalos’ class!
As for our school total…Drumroll please…

Jump Rope 4 Heart 2019

On Friday, March 15th, for the 37th year in a row, Nelson students participated in:
Participating in Jump Rope for Heart helps Nelson students learn the importance of physical activity, healthy eating and giving to others.
We jumped with our buddies & friends from 11:00-12:00 in the gymnasium & competed in challenges given by Mr. Morrison.

Can’t Wait for the Jumping Fun!

Friday, March 15th is Jump Day!
We will be joining our big buddies in the gym on Friday at 11:00 to participate in Jump Rope for Heart 2019! We’ll be skipping for an hour and participating in many challenges along with Ms. Tsumori and Ms. Gatenby’s classes. Everyone’s been working hard on their skipping moves and I’m so excited for all the fun! Remember to keep collecting pledges and return your envelopes on the 1st day back after Spring Break! Remember to wear runners and comfortable, cool clothing for an hour of jumping! If you have RED, please wear it in support of the Heart & Stroke Foundation. Don’t forget to bring your water bottle as well! Go Nelson!

We Scare Hunger Food Drive

Nelson’s ME to WE club is starting an exciting year of fundraising by holding a food drive for the We Scare Hunger campaign. Please bring non-perishable food items to school until November 22nd to help support our local community. Students in the Me to We club from Div. 1 will be collecting items from classes.
Thank you for your support!

We have created theme days although you’re welcome to bring in any donation on any day!

November 14^th& November 15th
Breakfast foods! —hot and cold boxed cereals, oatmeal, granola, muesli, whole grain bran, granola bars, breakfast bars, tea, coffee, canned fruit, pancake mix

November 16^th& November 19th
Lunch! —canned soup, hearty stews, pork and beans, chilli, ready to serve meals, boxed macaroni and cheese, jams, crackers, canned fish

November 20^th& November 21st
Dinner! —brown and white rice, barley, whole wheat pasta, and other grains, tomato sauce, pasta sauce, canned chicken or turkey

Poppy Fund Donations

Every year, Nelson Elementary School collects donations to raise funds in support of Veterans and their families.
All students will receive a poppy at our assembly on Friday morning at 10:45. Thank you, your generous donations are so very much appreciated.

TERRY FOX RUN 2018

Nelson students participated in our 29th annual Terry Fox Run on Fri. Sept. 21st. After one week of fundraising, bringing in Toonies for Terry and collecting pledges, we raised an incredible amount of money for the Terry Fox Foundation! Way to go Nelson!! We are the 2nd highest fundraising elementary school in Burnaby with fundraising totals over the last few years being:
2013 ~ $1430 2014 ~ $1097
2015 ~ $1,967 2016 ~ $2, 200
2017 ~ $2, 802
Nelson students will find out what their fundraising total this year is soon and will be rewarded for all their hard work!

Toonies for Terry

Nelson’s Terry Fox run will take place Friday at 1:45pm. Please join us at 1:30 for a short assembly to remember Terry, a warm up and then off on our run!
All this week Nelson students and teachers have been challenged to bring in at least one toonie and have the fundraising goal of $3, 000, topping last year’s fundraising total of $2, 802.
