Y is for YIPPEEE!!! …

~
…It’s the Last Day of School!

We started our day with sharing our wonderful Social Studies and Science posters and then celebrated with YIPPEE, it’s YEAR END free time with games and lots of Timbits and snacks!
In the afternoon, Mr. Morrison and Mr. Ng led a wonderful Graduation Ceremony. I was so proud to present 5 past students with citizenship awards and I hope to be presenting one to you in 4 years! What a great way to mark our last day full together for the 2018-19 school year.

Reading in the Park

We celebrated the end of the school year with our last Literacy Celebration, Reading in the Park. All of Nelson walked over to Secret Park after lunch with our blankets and books and we enjoyed our stories in the sunshine.

Spheros!

Grade 6s and 7s from Division 2 shared their Sphero projects with us this afternoon. Spheros are spherical robots that are capable of rolling around under the control of an iPad.

Students integrated ADST into their social studies curriculum using ancient civilizations from around the world as themes for their obstacle courses.

End of Year Band Concert

Mr. Denroche treated us to a wonderful band concert this morning. The undercover area was the perfect location as the hot sun made the outdoor concert possible.

Community Cleanup

Nelson spent a beautiful Friday afternoon cleaning up our community and enjoying the sunny afternoon with our buddies.
With bags full and tales of the most interesting item found, we returned to school before heading home for the weekend.
Thank you for all your hard work Nelsonites!

Literacy Week

Nelson celebrated reading last week with several different events.
Teachers and classes decorated their doors with literacy themes, students and staff were invited to dress as their favourite book character and we ended the week with a Family Read on Friday morning.

Thank you to everyone who participated and to all friends and family that joined us to share in the love of reading!
Thanks to Mrs. Roberts for organizing all the extra fun this week!

In Flander’s Fields

A number of brave souls from Division 8 volunteered to practice on their own time in order to present this famous Remembrance Day poem written during the First World War by Canadian physician Lieutenant-Colonel John McCrae.

Well done everyone! I’m so proud of our contribution to this Nelson tradition.
