100 Days of School

100 Days of School

Orange Shirt Day 2023

Orange Shirt Day is an event that started in 2013.
It was designed to educate people and promote awareness about the Indian residential school system and the impact this system had on Indigenous communities for more than a century in Canada.
The date was chosen because it is the time of year in which children were taken from their homes to residential schools.
This week, Division 9 students participated in Orange Shirt Day in a couple different ways. We. tried to put ourselves in the shoes of Phyllis Webstad and created art based on what t-shirt we would want to wear on the 1st day of school and discussed how it would feel if it was taken away. Today, a beautiful assembly was presented by Ms. Boyes and Nelson’s Indigenous Cmte. We ended with saying “Huy ch q’u” (“Hi-ch-ka,” giving of thanks, with our hands held in front at heart leave with palms open and facing upwards).

Nelson students, what was your favourite part of the day and how will you ensure that other students at school always feel like they matter, they are cared for and they are important?

Report Cards

Report Cards came home today!
Please sign and return the envelope after reading through the report with your child.

If you are interested in registering your child for summer school, please make note of their PEN on the top left label as we are unable to give out PEN numbers over the phone or through email.

Please let me know if you have any questions or you’d like to meet to discuss your child’s report. Thanks so much for your continued support!

Imagination Islands

Div. 8 students designed and planned their very own islands! They were asked to be as creative as they could and have islands that were rich with landforms. They could add places for the inhabitants of their island to work, play and live. They used a paper plate and craft materials to create a 3-D map of the island. Click on the pic to see their wonderful creations!
