Curricular competency: Understanding and Solving:

Develop, demonstrate, and apply mathematical understanding through play, inquiry, and problem solving.

In Math for term 1 we have been focusing on number sense and place value.  We have explored different ways to represent numbers using different manipulatives such as play money, loose parts and cuisinaire rods.  We also play with the materials a lot so we can become familiar with their affordances.  During Math we often work together with our table buddies and in small groups.  One activity we really enjoyed was doing esti-mysteries.  We enjoyed making estimates and reading the clues our friends’ made to help us get closer to the correct amount.  We’re excited to do more Math together in January.
