Hi Teachers/Parents/Guardians,
I just wanted to fill everyone in on the latest cultural enhancements happening in the Kingsway/South Zone.
In the Primary classes, we focused on the two stories “You Hold Me Up” by Monique Gray Smith and “BIrd Song” by Julie Flett. We discussed who held us up in our lives and the seasonal rounds used by Indigenous people. I encourage everyone to check out these books written by Indigenous authors. They are also available on YouTube.
In the Intermediate classes, we focused on “Laws Of The Land”. We discussed how different Indigenous cultures use these law. We also learned about the program “Guardians of the Land” (available on YouTube). It is so important for our youth to understand the importance of land and how everything has a purpose.
As we move into our last week of school before the holidays, I just wanted to wish everyone a relaxing and joyous holiday! Stay Safe!
