Greetings Families!
I would like to begin by acknowledging the unceded traditional territory of the Musqueam, Squamish and Tsleil Waututh Nations on whose land we teach, learn and live. I hope your family has had a great summer and your child(ren) have a positive start at their school.
I would like to take this opportunity to welcome your child(ren) to the 2020-21 school year. My name is April Strickland and I am a member of the Qalipu Mi’kmaq First Nation Band in Newfoundland. I am the Indigenous Resource Teacher for the Kingsway South Zone. I am responsible for supporting the following schools:

According to our school records you have identified your son/daughter as having Indigenous ancestry. Indigenous Education in Burnaby Schools offers the following programs and services in a variety of ways dependent on each student’s needs:
- Integrating Indigenous worldviews, culture, history with a focus on local content
- District wide cultural projects, resources, leadership opportunities and celebrations
- Introduction to First Nations oral Languages and development via First Voices
- Grade 7 transition program from Elementary to Secondary Schools
- Attendance monitoring
- Parent liaising and advocacy
- Teacher Collaboration groups to support implementation of new curriculum
