Welcome!
My name is April Strickland and I am the Indigenous resource teacher for the Kingsway South Zone elementary schools in Burnaby. I would like to acknowledge that I work on the traditional territories of the Coast Salish Nations of Musqueam, Tsleil Waututh and Squamish. I am a member of the Qalipu Mi’kmaq First Nation Band in Newfoundland and have lived in BC for 5 years.
My role is to provide culturally relevant programming and services to students of Indigenous ancestry. I also work collaboratively with schools, teachers, and the community to increase the knowledge and understanding of Indigenous history, traditions and cultures.
I created this blog for my Kingsway South Zone parents and teachers to inform you all of upcoming events and new resources that may be beneficial for students of Indigenous ancestry.
