Skating & Ball Hockey!

Huge thank you to all the parents that make our field trips possible! Not all of you were on the ice, but I appreciate all of you helping to make sure kids are safe on the busses, walking across streets, helping tie skates, and so much more!

Kindness, S’mores, Coffee, & More

Today we focused on kindness. Tomorrow is Pink Shirt Day, which is all about kindness and anti-bullying. We started with reading a book about s’mores. It taught us that even though we are all very different like chocolate, marshmallows, and graham crackers, we can come together to make something amazing. Our colour, shape, and size, don’t matter just like all the parts of a s’more. We then started our project of decorating 200 coffee cup sleeves. Ms. Shen has organized a partnership with Coffee Loft, which is just down the street from our school, to spread kindness to our community! We get to decorate and spread kind messages and the customers at Coffee Loft will get to enjoy our art! In social studies we have been learning about cultures, people, and community. To bring it all together, we want to show our community that they can be kind to everyone around them too! In a couple weeks we will walk over to Coffee Loft and drop off all our artwork!

Centres, it’s not just about play!

Ms. Shen LOVES centres because it’s where personalities come out, where students have to collaborate, and where interests form. Today kids were playing lego, trains, go fish, making art, singing to plants, reading, playing doctor, playing kitchen, and marble run. During centres we learn to take turns, learn to share ideas, communicate, and so much more. We have to share our imagination, communicate and decide on rules together, think about our train tracks and where they’re going and how to connect the tracks together, build on each other’s ideas, and so much more. We have to problem solve collaboratively and work together. Students are encouraged to play with other kids rather than on their own. During this time we occasionally have disagreements, get a little wild, but we always have fun and learn.

Science, Water, & Planting!

We finished learning the water cycle and today we talked about why water is important. To learn more about this, we planted a seed and we will make sure to water it and watch it grow! We also watched some time lapse videos of different plants growing from seeds.

The Shen Art Museum & Origami

Today we got tickets to the Shen Art Museum! We first named our paintings, set them up, and got to visit the museum! We even invited Ms. Clair back to check out our finished masterpieces! Then this afternoon, Mrs. Kashima came to teach us some origami! It’s been an art filled week!

Painting, Art, & Creativity

Our school staff is full of different talents! Ms. Clair, who works in the community room at our school, is also an artist! She has her own art studio, so we invited her into our classroom to inspire us and teach us!
Today we painted and showed our creativity!

The Shen Zoo

Today we finished up our creatures and our non fiction books to go with our habitats! The Shen Zoo opened for a 15 minute tour. Each pair of kids got tickets to enter the zoo and like a real zoo, we couldn’t touch the animals or enter the habitats. We read about each other’s creations and then got to take our projects home!
