Lion King Jr Performance Information

Dear Parents of Gilmore Students,

Our Lion King Jr. performance is fast approaching, and we are so excited to share it with all of you.  Here are a few very important items regarding the performances at the end of February.

Performance Dates

Odd numbered divisions will perform on Tuesday, February 27 at 6:00PM.

Even numbered divisions will perform on Wednesday, February 28 at 6:00PM.

Dress rehearsals will take place at 12:45 on the same day as the classes’ respective performance.  All students will be bussed to and from the theatre for the dress rehearsal.

Arrival at the Theatre

Students will be required to be at the theatre at 5:45 on their performance night.  They will meet their classroom teacher at the theatre and be taken backstage.  Please note that the school is not organizing busses for the evening performances, and parents are expected to arrange transportation for their children to and from the venue.

Students should arrive in their performance clothing:  beige t-shirt, black pants, black shoes.

If you are having trouble finding a ride to the theatre, or are able to take some extra family members in your car, please contact your classroom teacher.

Photography/Filming at the Theatre

There will be strictly no photography or video permitted during the evening performances.  We want you to be able to put down the camera and enjoy the show.  Photography will be permitted during the dress rehearsals as long as cameras do not have a flash turned on.

We are currently looking into having both of the performances filmed and photographs taken and will give more details once this has been confirmed.

*Actual ticket order forms and information will be sent home in the near future.*

Each student will be allowed an initial order of 3 tickets each.  Once we have made certain that all families have gotten tickets we may release any unsold tickets for purchase.

Tickets for the evening performance will be $10.  All seats will be first come, first served. No seats in the theatre can be held or reserved.

We will also be opening up seats for the afternoon dress rehearsals.  Tickets will be required but there will be no charge for these tickets.  We encourage extended family (grandparents, aunts, uncles) to come to these dress rehearsals.  Please note that this will be a rehearsal and not a performance, meaning there may be stops and restarts to the show.

If there are any questions regarding tickets, please contact Mr. Greenwood via email (

Please do not call the main office to ask regarding ticket purchases.

Auditions – Well Done!

To all the students that came out and auditioned for roles in the Lion King Jr.,

Myself and a variety of other staff members very much enjoyed all of the students that came and auditioned for our show.  We were all so impressed with everyone.  Students were all well prepared, and showed a lot of courage in coming in and doing this, especially since the majority of students had never done anything like this before!

We are working through all of our notes and the videos of the auditions, we hope to have our final decisions early next week.

  3.  Prepare one song of their own choice – any song/any style

Lion King Jr

We are so excited to begin our journey with Disney’s The Lion King Jr!  This is a whole school project, and every student at Gilmore will be a part of the performance.

Classes will all learn about musical theatre, and will learn the songs they will perform during their regular music times. Each class will present about 3 songs during our performance in February.

Our first big goal is to have our Drama Club sign up, and to cast the show.  If your child is in grades 5, 6, or 7 they have the opportunity to be one of the main characters in our musical.  Students should have already received a permission form with details about the drama club practice times.  We will meet on Wednesdays from 3:00-4:15 and on Fridays from 8:00-9:00.  Students must commit to being a part of the club, and make sure they are at every rehearsal.

We will also be looking for one boy and one girl in grades 3 or 4 to play Young Simba and Young Nala in our show.  More details about that to come.

As always, if there are any questions about The Lion King Jr please do not hesitate to contact me via email
