The children were really excited to read Danielle Daniel`s book, Sometimes I Feel Like A Fox. This book introduces us to the Anishinaabe traditions of totem animals. We started off the lesson by discussing our favourite animals, and what attributes or characteristics we admire about them. The children got to pick animals to represent different members of their family. They then got to make a portrait of themselves with their chosen animal. Their portraits and write-up can be seen on our classroom wall. Please make sure to ask your children what animals they choose to represent themselves and their family.
This is a great introduction to our Social Studies and Science units!
