Every year on March 8th people from around the world come together to pay tribute to a very special occasion: International Women’s Day. As we learned about in class, there are major reasons why this day should be acknowledged and respected but still a lot of work needs to be in order to achieve gender equality. This year’s International Women’s Day theme is choose to challenge. Thus, you will no doubt run into pictures with people taking pictures with their hand held high!
For this blog post, please conduct a quick research on the following:
- A famous International Women’s Day or women/female empowerment quote and explain in 4-5 sentences why you chose it and why it interests you.
- Regarding the theme, Choose to Challenge, what is something that frustrates you about how girls/women are treated? It could be a common stereotype, treatment or double-standard that you perceive (or even face!). Roughly 5-7 sentences.
- Here comes the sentimental part (kind of!). Write about a woman who you find inspiring. It could a famous woman in history, your Mum, Sister, BFF, or maybe even, Ms. Panesar :)? How does this woman make you feel? Why is she significant in your life. Roughly 10 sentences.
This passage talks about the rights for women. A famous quote from Adrienne Rich, she said “The most important thing one women can do for another is expand her sense of actual possibilities.” I think that this quote is meaningful because women have bin kept back for a long period of time, and this explains that women have the power to do their own interests and to not be kept back or bossed around by someone else. But to actually go to their own true potential to do what their dream is, and nothing is in their way. And this also is very meaningful because it encourages women to not be forced to do things that they want. Something that frustrates me about this whole topic is that women get treated very unequally, and they get punished for doing things that are normal. And also they get almost no rights! And an example is that not even 100 years ago women could not vote. And that’s bad because that basically meant that they could not choose the government that they want, which leads to the fact that basically means that they cannot choose their life style. And also people don’t let women do follow their dreams or they will not grow up to be the person that they want to be. This also frustrates me by the fact that people think that different genders means that people should be treated differently. And with that women had to fight their way to equality, and that should not have happened because everyone should have common sense, and know to treat everyone the same. This is also frustrating because I don’t get why people think that just because of different genders means to be treated differently but tin a bad way. And it got so bad that people started making stereotypes about women, and sooner or later people were believing their own very lies. And with that it spread like wild fire, and even though this all started a really long time ago it is still going on today. Now comes the part were I write about a women. And I choose my mom! My mom is significant in my life because my mom introduced me to this world, and my mom would do anything for me. My mom is also significant to me because my mom would protect me from anything. My mom is also significant because if she gets insulated by a random stranger then she would not care and not take it personally. And we could learn from that, to never lose your temper. And another person is Alice Paul. I choose this person as well because this person is one of the mane people who changed peoples thoughts about women in a positive way. This person is significant because of the fact that this person was the start of freedom put to women. And this person also started the change for women to have freedom, and if this person was not there to help the movement then maybe the rights that women have now wont be a thing. Anyways this concludes by blog post, hope you enjoyed it! BY: Alan.J.
The quote I chose is, “You don’t have to be pretty. You don’t owe prettiness to anyone. Not to your boyfriend/spouse/partner, not to your co-workers, especially not to random men on the street. You don’t owe it to your mother, you don’t owe it to your children, you don’t owe it to civilization in general. Prettiness is not a rent you pay for occupying a space marked ‘female.'”-Erin McKean. I decided to talk about this quote because women in this world are often pressured to look the best we can. We are criticized a lot more than other people (not saying that others don’t get criticized) and judged. So, I think it’s really important that females understand that we don’t owe anyone anything. We don’t have to try to look better for others, if you feel beautiful and satisfied with yourself, that’s enough. Messages like this are extremely crucial as a lot of girls and women still think that they must reach the expectations of other people when in reality, they really don’t have to if they don’t want to.
There are probably hundreds of stereotypes about women and girls, but one that annoys me greatly is when people still perceive women as “lower than men.” Due to hundreds of years of women being treated as lesser beings, this stereotype still survives today. While there has been a lot of improvement and changes in people’s mindsets, there is still a lot of space for change, especially with this stereotype. It makes me so frustrated whenever someone is like “Oh, you can do that?? But you’re a girl.” I’ve had to deal with a lot of stereotypes growing up, and this one by far is the most annoying. Like do you not understand that we are also people? What’s so hard about acknowledging us as human beings?
There are a lot of strong and empowering women in the world, but personally, the female that inspires me the most isn’t just one individual, its multiple. Through all my years at Taylor Park, I’ve never felt so comfortable and accepted in a class like I do now. (Before I go on, I apologize to all the boys in our class, because they are going to be excluded in my next few sentences. You guys are also amazing as well.) Every single girl in this class has helped me in some way, whether it’s helping me improve my mindset, gain more confidence, supporting me, or even just including me. You’ve all made me feel so welcomed the moment I entered this class. So, thank you to Drew, Jessica, Kareena, Mary, Maya, Sandra, Tamara, Tiya, and Yasmine. (+ Ms. Pano and Ms. Pelland) I really appreciate that everyone here is so open and don’t judge people the moment they set foot into this class. It’s not just the girl gang that are open, it’s also the boys, so I just want to thank everyone in general. Happy International Women’s Day ya’ll! 🙂
Such kind words, thank you April 🙂
and Salina too, I just forgot to add her. Sorry
So, the quote I have chosen for this international women’s day online assign- Blog post. It is “There is nothing stronger than a broken woman who has rebuilt herself”. I chose this quote because I think it shows some incredible strength to some woman who have dedicated themselves to impress men who called them some questionable and inappropriate stuff. She wants to do is impress the men after she got, I don’t know sexually abused by a police officer, sent to prison for just breathing, and posted bail. She trained herself to be fit to get ignored and so on and so for. Another reason is this is to prove that some women are stronger than men however the country doesn’t see it that way and thinks women are not as superior with men and they are humongous, little weaklings. Which they aren’t (Ok some might be if they do some weird things.) It also interests me because seeing any quote is good because I am someone who isn’t interested in well anything other then video games and trains… (Ok that is over-exaggeration but you know what I mean.) So learning this is interesting. (I guess)
Well teachers have no idea on trying to make us find stuff without giving examples Im just gonna come with one from YouTube videos. Because the school education system is flawed as Fu- it is they just generally get treated unfairly, there isn’t anything I can say to just say 1. So I will list a ton that annoy me. Not paid the same as men is an annoying thing at this point that has YET TO BE RESOLVED. Anyway, I will now demonstrate a scenario I will play 2 characters The Man and the Women.
Women: Just breathing fresh air
Man: Is she breathing?
Other Men: Is she even allowed to do that?
END SCENE.
Ok I will explain what I mean, if you were a woman, you could be told off by literally the simplest thing because we live in a world where nothing matters and only the straight white men do. Think this is bad just remember that firemen were called to hose down the dangerous praying women during well you know what. Many people also thing women are just well servants and men do all the tough work like getting a job, riding public transit etc. Anyway many people also separate toys based on girl and boy toys, which I honestly don’t understand but hey it’s the 19th century and ya stuff like this happens.
Ok now on to women inspiring I guess since I must keep this short (and I am actually) Just kidding no. I am choosing Alice Paul she helped rattified the 19th constitutional amendment giving women right to vote it’s in the text the right of US citizens to vote shall not be abridged by the Us by sex”. if you have no idea what Im talking about basically this amendment gave women the right to vote. And it took Mississippi way too long to ratify it they might as well not do it. Ignoring that she was one of the main characters who lead the marches during the streets and probably almost got shot. But it is ok considering she did get what she wanted but whatever. She being an activist for trying to do this was on the 2012 american penny, she will be gone when america gets the penny but don’t worry she will be remember later. Anyway she initiated the 1913 women suffage and was one of the leaders as she started the event. One of her famous things is “We demand a cnstitutiional amendemnt that let’s women vote”. When she was an activist she was arrested not once not twice not thrice not quadric not quintice nor hextice but Spetice and imprisoned not first not second but third times. In 1910 she returned to the United States to continue her life and do more suffage women in hope of giving women her rights. She wasn’t done however in 1964 she helped the civil rights movement which also helped. and she died in 1977 after becoming a vegentation when she was done, the end.
1) well, the quote was confidence has no competition I picked it because it was very because when I see people have a lot of confidence and they do not really care about the competition and I do not really mind but if they do not try, I will always try to boost their confidence because they will lose it over time. It interests me because I think sometimes, I need to work on not always beating competition because I work a lot and just having fun times at the place where I play sports.
2) I hate that in the early 1900’s women were not a loud to vote and because they say that women were supposed to work in the kitchen and cleaning and cooking, and it was very mean for them to do that and I think people at that time didn’t understand and I think that now that we have evolved, we know now that it was very mean to do but some of the women’s working for the military very brave to do so and they have potential to work hard.
3) I think it would be my mom and my sister because they look out for me the most and my mom helps me a lot like socials and science and my sister helps me set the table and helps with math I think if I didn’t have them my life would have been hard on me and I’m very grateful that I have them and the food they set on table so I can sleep and stuff and that they pick me up when I don’t have any energy left in me they can help me and I can help them back I think if I didn’t have a helpful family I would have been very lost and I would not know what to do and I would like to thank my grandma to she helps clean and cook and she can still drive me but I tell her I can walk and I don’t want to stress all of them out and all of them are very great to have if you got to know them they are they are very nice and I’m not saying that because they are family they are truly nice.
“The best protection any woman can have is courage.” -Elizabeth Cady Stanton. I would say that this quote can sometimes relate to myself. I would say that I do have the guts to punch someone who is really making my friends very uncomfortable. I honestly can quickly agree with what Stanton has said. So many people have made such a big change around the world with practically nothing but their courage and determination.
I would say that there are some things that I don’t like at ALL from this sexism and junk. I would say how my friends and so many others get shamed by their parents because they aren’t acting lady-like enough. How is that even possible. So many women are different you can’t just say that. Then I could practically do anything cause another female has done it too. Another thing I hate is the Girl vs. Boys vs. Me. For example it says, “GIrLs bE lIKe” and then shows makeup. Then it says, “BOyS Be LiKE” and shows soccer or something and lastly it says “ThEN tHieRS JuST mE” and shows forking anime or something. WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT. Honesty, I guess I can agree with them. It is just them being an idiot thinking they’re the only person who watches anime. That’s why so many people make memes on Naruto and Boku No Hero Academia (anime) so much. It’s because they haven’t watched the anime like you (small brain people >:C ). I always find these so annoying whenever I stumble upon them so many times and whenever I go to the “THeN tHEre’s JuSt mE” part because I literally do the same stuff as them (excluding this yaoi one. Don’t search it up.) And oh, like a MILLION people have too. It always angers me to find people like that. They can’t just say that they are the only people who have liked that before and just speak for a billion people. It’s just so arrogant of them.
I would say it would be my mom :D. Whenever I hear our classmates’ family members (mainely the moms and dads,) they always sound just SO bad at saying those things. My parents and any of my family members have always been so supportive of me and what I’ve done. Even one of my uncles and aunts said that they were so happy to see me get stronger with both strength and talking. Which wasn’t a good thing for ladies or whatever. But anyways, my mom has always let me free on what I wanted to be. Whether it was a firefighter, a doctor, or even just a nurse or something. She’s also fine with my opinions on things like how I like to dress, what colours I like, what hobbies I do, and so on. The only thing she doesn’t accept me to do is with bad language. Even if I say, “F you,” she would still tell me not to do that. In the start, I got kind of angry that she didn’t let me do those things because I wasn’t even saying it and saw it as if my mom only didn’t want me to say that because it wasn’t lady-like. But quickly after that, I did understand why she did tell me not to say those things. She just wants to be a good mom! Plus, we can’t swear anyways because our church says we can’t swear every second of our lives. And honestly, being a good mom definitely doesn’t need sexism to put them on for their children.
I like the quote, “The extremists are afraid of books and pens, the power of education frightens them. they are afraid of women.” This quote was said by Malala Yousafzai. I think this quote shows that people who think women shouldn’t have an education are afraid of women having power. This quote tells us that the people who stop women aren’t strong, just scared.
It is frustrating to see people be treated badly for being different. Not everyone is the same. If everyone was the same, life would be boring. Women are part of the society just like men. Everyone in society should be treated the same. The world could achieve great things if we were all united.
Malala Yousafzai is inspiring because she went in harm’s way to protest about gender equality. She almost died for her cause because there were people who wanted to stop her. Malala had brought awareness about the gender equality issues. Malala had caused girls’ schools to be built at her home. She had also been given a Nobel Peace Prize. I think it takes a lot of courage to do what she did, especially at such a young age. Malala had made change and is now a symbol. Not many people are able to do the same things as she did. Not many people have the same courage, but we should be inspired to fight for good change.
Happy International Women’s day! Today I will be talking about this day and my thoughts and feelings about it. Hope you enjoy it!
One of my favorite quote that relates to this day and women empowerment is a quote that Eleanor Roosevelt wrote. It’s quite simple but I think that it’s very powerful and has multiple meanings. “Well-behaved women rarely make history.” I really like this quote because, for me, I can interpret it in 2 ways. One is that if we women didn’t fight back and stand up for ourselves we wouldn’t even be treated how we are today. We fought for our rights and didn’t just let all the inequality happen. One other way that I saw this quote was, how women are stereotyped to act “ladylike.” (Whatever that even means ) There are people who believe that women are supposed to sit quietly, listen to what men say, raise children, and just sit there and look pretty. People believe that those are the qualities women need to be well-behaved. The quote means that the reason things changed from the past about how females are treated is that we didn’t care about the twisted and turned meaning of, “well behaved,” that other people believed. This is really inspiring to me because I’ve been told multiple times in my life that this is not how a girl acts or behaves. Girls should lift heavy objects. Sit like a woman please, we are in public. (So if a man was sitting like a complete potato it would be okay?) I can relate to this quote as you can see.
And this leads to something that really bothers me. Why the heck are women put in their “places” so much. Why do people state that women should wear dresses and men should be in suits. Women shouldn’t lift heavy objects, you wouldn’t want to ruin that pretty face of yours, would you? Why do people care what we can and can’t do? How does it affect their lives? And it’s annoying when some women even buy into what others think! For example, I was reading a book and it was written in there, “ I am a girl why are you treating me like this.” Or girls even say sometimes, “You’re a boy, your strengths can you lift this for me?” I have a friend who is a girl, that can break your face in one punch buddy. It’s even more aggravating when people teach these stereotypes to their younger ones because it’s like filling all this un-true crap into the next generation.
I woman in my life that I really find inspiring is my teacher, Ms. Panesar. She is a feminist and has shown me so many more perspectives on this topic. I always knew women were always treated unfairly but that was just about it. I never really knew what the actual problems were. She made me see the horrible stereotypes that are in this world, that I never even acknowledged were so discriminating. My younger self even believed in some of these stereotypes and didn’t even know they were bad. My teacher made me realize that this world is really screwed up and I needed help to fix it. I never even knew how women are treated. I didn’t know that some men believe women are toys that they own. I didn’t even know that in some places women don’t even have rights. Ms. Panesar made me see all the imperfections in this world that I didn’t even know were there. And for that, thank you, because I wouldn’t be the person I am today if it wasn’t for you.
Thank you for reading this blog and I hope you enjoyed my little rant!
Awwwwwwww thank you Tiya, very kind of you!
Malala Yousafzai had once said, “I believe in equality. And I believe there is no difference between a man and a woman. I even believe that a woman is more powerful than a man.”
I chose this quote because Malala had fought for the rights of women being able to have education and the access to have the same rights as men. Although this quote doesn’t have any complicated definition behind it (easy to understand), it is powerful yet straightforward. This quote interests me by the belief she has towards women and the equal right that should be provided to both men and women.
What frustrates me is obviously the unfair treatment and the stereotypes women in some places face. When I encounter facts such as the time when women weren’t allowed to vote and that they were treated as flowerpots placed at home just to look pretty and everything, it just angers me because there are so many talented people on the world and yet a huge amount of them isn’t allowed to study, to learn, or to show their potential, but to be treated as decorations in their houses. The unfairness when people overlook women and to immediately state that women have no potential in businesses or power to support a family, is really irritating and annoying because there are so much talented feminine that are better than men and yet some people still don’t look at their accomplishment, but to believe that only men are able to make big success in their career. Like what kind of logic is that?? Also, like the theme (choose to challenge), people especially feminine should step up and support this occasion and fight for those who still aren’t treated fairly because of their gender. In my case, I barely face any stereotypes compared to other people I’ve known. I’m born in a very care-free family that doesn’t judge me by gender and people I’ve encountered are all very encouraging, so when things like International Women’s Day occur, I can’t really connect with these occasions, but I know that they still exist and that stereotypes are still out there in the world. Hopefully, in the future people could get rid of those stereotypes because we aren’t living in the past and things are now changing in order to make rights possible for everyone.
A person that is significant to me is my mom. She is a very smart and strong feminine and she has a lot of determination when she firmly believes in something. Most of the time I feel like she is smarter than my dad because my dad could be extremely careless at times. For example, last year she had made a wooden fence for the front of our house and she didn’t even receive any help with making it or buying the materials. While on the other hand my dad is still struggling to build a shelf without making it fall apart. My mom also has more hands-on experiences and skills to fix sudden problems unlike my dad here. For example, not long ago, my dad’s car tire went flat when we were driving to school and he was panicking, so he left my brother and I on the street while he drove back home by himself (plus it was raining that day). Anyways, I would never forgive him for that, but this also proves that my mom is usually keener at dealing with certain sudden circumstances than my dad. My mom had made a great impact on my life and from her shadow I have learned about many things about feminine power and how great of an impact we could make in the society. Most importantly, she doesn’t believe in stereotypes in genders or cultures. This is also, I guess, what I’ve learned from her.
A famous of international women day person quote is Malala because I fell the quote is especially important. The quote is when the world is silent even one voice becomes power. I like this quote is because I is teaching an especially important lesson it lesson is standing up like when someone is being Bulling’d and if you do not say anything they are still getting bullying, but if you say something they will stop, so one voice is powerful. this quote interest me is because one voice is not powerful enough what do you do?
One thing I am frustrated about girls and women is treated is that people say that they are not strong enough to do things, but I think if you are hardworking everything is possible. The second thing I am frustrated about is they must work at home to do chores and the men can work outside like not in the house, but why do girls have to work at home it is very unfair why cannot people treated children the same. The third thing I am frustrated about is like if someone is doing the same job, but the girls will get pay less but it is not less only a thousand dollars, but it is ten thousand or more, so this is something I am frustrated about.
The person I think is inspiring is my mum, and my dad this is the most inspiring in my life is because first my mum she does things to help are family like buying groceries, cook food, helping homework that I don’t know, or don’t understand maybe like my math science etc…, drive me to classes like swimming basketball etc…, washing dishes, doing the laundry, so she does a lot of things to help the family, so she is the most inspiring person in my live. The second person is inspiring in my live is my dad he is inspiring is, because he is hard working, reasonable, responsible, caring, support like when I am playing basketball, he is support by yelling my name out, spending his time to play with my sister and me even he has work, but he but are priority first, because he says we are his future, so this is some people that is inspiring in my live.
“Sometimes it’s the princess who kills the dragon and saves the prince.” –Samuel Lowe. In a lot of fantasy movies, the prince always saves the day, they always save the princess. I have always wondered why it isn’t the other way around, why can’t the princess be the hero, why is the princess always the person who needs saving. Why is that the females in these fantasy type shows need to be saved. In shows where the female needs to be saved, why is it portrayed like that?
There are so many stereotypes of women, for example, a lot of people think “a girl needs to look this way, act this way and talk this way.” This frustrates me because women are NOT all the same. We all look different, act differently and talk differently.
Diversity means “understanding that each individual is unique and recognizing our individual differences.” This is something society needs to do. We need to recognize that everyone is different and that it is okay to be different. It is normal to be different.
Malala Yousafzai…
Malala Yousafzai is a writer, education activist, human rights defender, blogger, and a woman’s rights activist. In 2012 she was shot by the Taliban; she was only 14. After being shot three times she was able to recover. She continued her work; she became the youngest person to ever win a Nobel Peace prize. Malala Yousafzai did not give up, she continued to fight for what she believed was right, which is why I find her inspiring. She got shot THREE times but continued to fight. Even though she got knocked down she got back up again. To this very day she continues to fight. Even though I continue to learn more about Malala Yousafzai her story is very inspiring, her story is like a metaphor…
“It’s not how many times you get knocked down that count, it’s how many times you get back up.” —George A. Custer
1.The quote is “I will not be another flower, picked for my beauty and left to die. I will be wild, difficult to find, and impossible to forget.”-Erin Van Vuren I chose this quote because it’s very true no one wants do just get bossed around and just die after without doing nothing. You want to be known for a person who help they change in many ways. Thats why I like this quote a lot because you don’t want to be known as an old man who cared for his wife or to be known as Martin Luther King, Jr. Of course, people want to be known as the second option so make your life worth it.
2.When people say you’re a woman you shouldn’t do that or that’s what boys do.
It makes me confused how do you know that only boys can do it why can’t girls do it? Its dumb why can’t we all just live our life how we want to. Even if you don’t like the fact that they are doing it doesn’t mean you get to boss them and make them live how you want to. Like its no your life focus on what you want to do why do you care. Even the smallest thing they care about we are living in the future we can chose what we want to do.
3.My mom because I don’t understand how she can keep yelling at me and her voice doesn’t hurt I swear she can yell for hours and not get a sore throat. But I’m inspired by her because when she first moved to Canada, she didn’t know one bit of English she went alone to the mall and got lost a few times. But over time she learned how to speak English and now she knows enough English to talk to someone. I’m surprised like what if I moved to France and didn’t know anything not a single word but then in a year or two, I’m a master at speaking French. It’s so unexpected for that to happen but it just did happen, and my proof is my mother. Once she got lost in the mall but still somehow found the way out with no help at all. And she never got stressed or gave up when she didn’t understand she got treated differently too. It was hard for her to find friends because of her lack of English but now she has kids and knows how to speak English well and has a husband.
1. You might have once heard the quote, “My mother told me to be a lady. And for her, that meant be your own person, be independent.” You might think what does this mean. Honestly the answer is completely written in the text. I might not have grew up with Ruth, or even grow up the same way as her, but something in her quote makes me connect to her. I grew up getting told to be a women, to act like one, but not in a like “wear skirts, be gentle and sweet,” but to be the person I want to be. I’ve also been told, “A strong woman speaks up for her rights, a stronger woman speaks up for everyone’s right.” When i hear this, it makes me think that the women in the past who spoke up weren’t just doing it to get them the rights they deserve, but all the women, girls out there, for the ones that will come in the future.
2. Where do i start. So many things frustrates me. Like why the hell does women get paid less then men? What do they have we don’t. What makes people think women don’t have the same determination work ethic. We have jus as much strength as any men has. Or we possibly have more. Why do men get to vote in the past and women can’t? Did we not exist? Was one more opinion put in for counting so hard? Why do we get treated like property? We have a brain in our head, and a heart in our body. We are all human beings. We are the ones who make the next generation. Next time you discriminate some one based on their gender. Remember where you came from and who gave birth to you.
3.i know you’re going to be happy, but I’m writing about you for a reason. I never had a better teacher than Ms. Panesar. She knows what she says and does and puts her entire heart and patience in it. Ms. Panny makes me feel happy. That good vibe she brings to people. When i need to talk to someone the first person that hits mine head is Ms. Panesar. She’s the type of person who you can’t help, but spill your emotions into. She respects all people and, i believe, like me believes highly that men and women should be equal. She pushes us, every one of us, to be better people. To not be the type of person to pull your community down, but pull your community up. Ms. Panesar treats everyone’s equally and that’s what i love most about her.
Awwwww thank you, Jessica aka Easter Bear.
I strongly believe in the quote, “Feminism isn’t about making women stronger. Women are already strong. It’s about changing the way the world perceives that strength.” To me personally, every part of this quote is just so true. Women are in fact very strong in many things, not just physically but also mentally. It also explains that “it isn’t about making women stronger.” This also comes to the topic on feminism, a lot of people think that feminism or being a feminist is just going against and hating men. This is not true. Being a feminist is simply just supporting the social, economic and political equality for women. Normally, feminists are women but there are men that are feminists too. Malala Yousafzai is a very inspiring woman to me. Even though girls could not go to school and all sorts of other things because of the Talibans. She fought not only for her but also for the other girls so they could have human rights. Malala never gave up hope, even when things were tough and did not go according to plan. She got shot in the head but even then, she never gave up hope. She even won the Nobel Peace Prize award at the age of 17! Over all, Malala Yousafzai really inspired me to never give up hope, even in the toughest times.
“Sometimes it’s the princess who kills the dragon and saves the prince.” –Samuel Lowe. In a lot of fantasy movies, the prince always saves the day, they always save the princess. I have always wondered why it isn’t the other way around? Why can’t the princess be the hero? Why is the princess always the person who needs saving? Malala Yousafzai did not give up, she continued to fight for what she believed was right, which is why I find her inspiring. She got shot THREE times but continued to fight. Even though she got knocked down she got back up again. To this very day she continues to fight. Even though I continue to learn more about Malala Yousafzai her story is very inspiring, her story is like a metaphor…
“It’s not how many times you get knocked down that count, it’s how many times you get back up.” —George A. Custer
“I was not rescued by a prince; I was the administrator of my own rescue.”
(https://cdn.cnn.com/cnnnext/dam/assets/150302113140-iwd-elizabeth-gilbert.jpg | Image link)
This quote, written by Elizabeth Gilbert, explains how life is not like your average fairy tale at all. The first segment of the quote, “I was not rescued by a prince,” does this exactly. In basically every fairy tale ever, a girl or woman is in trouble. Take “Rapunzel,” for example. A girl is trapped in an extremely high tower with no way to escape. Then, a prince comes and miraculously rescues Rapunzel. However, sometimes you can’t wait for a knight in shining armour to save you. “I was the administrator of my own rescue.” The second half of this quote means that you have to do things on your own sometimes. Being the administrator basically means being in charge, so to be the administrator of your own rescue means you cannot rely on someone else. You have to do it on your own. If you click on the link above, you can see how in the image, this girl climbed down from the extremely tall tower. She does this, not by waiting for someone to rescue her, like in “Rapunzel,” but climbs down the tower herself. As for why I chose this quote, it’s quite simple. It shows how women are. Did you know that most fairy tales, if not all, that have women as the protagonist, or main character, have one thing in common? They display the woman as weak and needing saving. This is as true as the probability of a blackberry bush bearing an orange. It’s not. Think of any woman who you find inspiring. They are not weak or needing saving but are the exact opposite. They are strong, and instead of needing saving, they save others. Again, the first part of the quote, “I was not rescued by a prince,” says this. They don’t wait for the knight in shining armour, they get it over with and do it themselves. This is how women are, they take things into their own hands and do it themselves.
Okay, now about the theme. The theme of this year’s International Women’s Day is, “Choose to Challenge.” Many people choose to challenge things, constantly, every single day. Take the women’s rights movement for example. They choose to challenge these laws that deprive themselves of basic human rights. The thing is, when women do choose to challenge something, many people are for some reason against it. Be it for simply wrong stereotypes like women are weaker or inferior to men, women are treated worse than men. Then, there are the double standards. Back to the human rights example. If men are deprived of a basic human right (which is very rare, because that’s how our society is), like being paid unequal wages for the same job, the men who stood up for it will be treated like a hero. For women, however, if they do the exact same thing as the men did, they are told that they don’t need that extra money, or that women are greedy and don’t deserve the same wages because they’re women. This is a double standard. Two people, usually of different genders, do something and are treated completely different from one another, just like the example above. The man is treated like a hero, the woman is not. This is usually the case for many things. Women who do choose to challenge are treated horribly. I just find this wrong. They are fighting for basic human rights, things which they should rightfully have, but for some reason, they don’t. This is what I find frustrating addressing the theme of this year’s International Women’s Day.
There are many women who I find inspiring in my life, such as how Viola Desmond resisted racial discrimination, and Rosa Parks, who refused to give up her seat to a white passenger. The list goes on and on. However, none of these women are as inspiring as my sister, Tia. Tia inspires me in many ways. She inspires me to try my best, to be a leader, to be kind. Whenever I have trouble with something, like a word I don’t quite understand, she takes time to explain it thoroughly and makes sure I understand it. Tia is one of the kindest people I have ever met as well. She is always polite and considerate. Whenever I hear a stereotype about women, like women aren’t as smart as men, I think of her and say to myself, “that is definitely not true.” She is brilliant and always helps people who need help, and she contributes in every way she can. As my older sibling, I always look up to her as a role model. I don’t know where I’d be in life without her. All I know is that without her, I wouldn’t be the person I am today.
‘’she overcame everything that was meant to destroy her.’’ was a quote I found online when searching for quotes. I think is really empowering as it shows how female were treated because it says ‘’she overcame everything that was meant to destroy her.’’ says that people came and tried to crush the dreams or desire that female need like rights, voting, jobs, stereotypes etc. But not only this female but stood up and still tried to get their rights.
When searching for common stereotypes I found one that probably frustrates multiple people. The stereotype is female don’t need equal pay because they are supported by their husbands which angers a lot as female doesn’t necessarily mean women has a husband which shows that female will always be behind the husband and the reason, I think like this is because some females are widows and can still work but still get half the money of men’s.it can also show that men are supposed to help female even though some females are stronger than male. Another stereotype more common is boys don’t cry as people perceive females to be more fragile, I guess. It can bring multiple other stereotypes that revolve around this idea like men’s are supposed to act more tough.
I think someone who inspires me in a way for IWD is Ms. Panesar because firstly I have no one else as my mom doesn’t really celebrate this day as well as she has work so I can do her because she does average things daily but Ms. Panesar always make us work hard as well as her herself to show that women are the same as men maybe even better! As said Ms. Panesar makes I so we all know that all people are the same but she makes it so she specifically teaches us so that we all learn gender equality. And today she even told us she makes the girls more active during PE so gender equality and we all are on the same skill level. Another reason why I think Ms. Panesar is significant is She tells us so much about our history that if I didn’t have her as our teacher I don’t think I’ll learn 50% of the things I learned about history especially about IWD.
im still terrible at writing ._.
also i found drug stuff 😀 https://www.investopedia.com/articles/economics/12/mechanics-black-market.asp
Awwwww thank youuuuuuuuuu, Albert!!! 🙂
There are many women in the world and there are a lot that is fighting for their rights. The quote “A woman is like a tea bag –you never know how strong she is until you dip it in hot water.” is written by Eleanor Roosevelt. I think that this quote means you don’t know what type of women they are until you really get to know then.
There are many Challenge to be face every day. Many of those is from discrimination like gender equally. Not to lie though I was probably very stereotypical when I was a little, but now I know that I was wrong when I was a little kid. It frustrates me that people accidently say thing and it is a little sexist, but they don’t even know it.
Ms. Panesar have really changed my thinking a lot. Like she has really made me think more about how discrimination is wrong. She has also made us do project that made me think more deeply into what I’m doing and learning form others.
Thank you, Gordonnnnnnnn 🙂
“There is no limit as to what we, as women can accomplish.” -Michelle Obama. This quote is important to me because it really reminds everyone of what women can do and how not only men have the power to do anything. Women are also people and they might even be better at some things, it’s just that we might never know if we don’t give everyone a chance. It reminds everyone that women can do so much more than we know or might expect, so we should just give everyone a chance. A great example of this was when Susan Wojcicki was chosen to be the CEO of YouTube, a multi-billion dollar business used by people of all races and genders across the world.
Something I don’t like about how people portray women is that they are just regular people, but worse. That they can’t do certain work as well as men or do some other random crap (notice how I’m watching my language, aren’t you proud of me?) that no one cares about. These types of stereotypes tend to be all lies and yes, while our bodies are built differently and can handle different amounts of physical labour that is nothing to discriminate people about. It also really pisses me off when people make rude remarks about women. These can be simple things such as “Stop acting like a little girl” or “sit like a lady.” I have never experienced anything like this in person but it seems to be a large problem whenever I hear someone talking about it. Your gender doesn’t affect how you behave, it’s all you who decides what you want to be and how you will behave.
A significant woman in my life is my great grandma because part of her life, she used to plan out and construct large ships that would then be used for important things such as shipping goods from land to land. For the other part she actually worked on a ship and I don’t really know what she did, but the fact that she had a job in the marine department was really shocking to me, as I’ve never seen any old pictures with a woman as a part of the crew. Another person is my mom because she can just somehow do so much. She can take care for me, Michael, and Slava. She takes care of us when we are sick and she manages to do so much in one day. She cleans around the house, washes the dishes, and walks Slava and Michael to and from school. Now imagine my dad doing something like that. He couldn’t even do half of all the stuff that I listed, and that’s not even everything. In conclusion, I think that women have the ability to do a lot more than people say, if not capable of more than twice as much things as men.
The women I admire is Malala yousafzai because she stood up for many taliban. She risked her life to save many women. The reason why I picked her is because she stood up to women when she was under 12 that’s very impressive. How women are treated is very bad they get discriminated because of their gender sometimes women get hurt and no one help them. Women sometimes don’t even get their own rights to do things like drive cars, get paid as much as men, or even fired from their jobs. Women get treated differently like not getting paid as much or beaten. Not many people notice this so they don’t even help women. In my opinion women shouldn’t get foiled from their job just because of their gender otherwise how is this fair for women. I don’t really know a quote that inspires me so it’s hard to write this part.
INTERNATIONAL WOMYN’S DAY
Malala Yousafzai said, “I raise up my voice-not so I can shout, but so that those without a voice can be heard. We cannot succeed when half of us are held back.” I chose this quote for multiple reasons. Number 1 is some people just cannot speak for themselves because there either scarred by something that has happened to them for example, Maya Angelou was sexually assaulted when she was 8 by her mother’s boyfriend and finally when she told her uncle what happened he kicked him to death and then did not talk for 5 years because she thought that her voice is what killed him. This is what I mean since others cannot speak for themselves other are and it is amazing because as womynkind, we need to stand up for each other because without this there would still be so much segregation against womyn. This interests me because a womyn who lived in Pakistan, got shot, had to deal with the Taliban, and even of that still stood up for womyn and I find her to be the most inspiring person in the world.
OK am about to rant so beware. Why are womyn disgraced? We are supposed to be a housewife, a house cleaner, and the only way you can be beautiful is to be skinny, and men when they say they get even more bullied than womyn well womyn get make fun of if your too skinny or too fat, if you are wearing makeup or if you are not wearing makeup, if you have done it or not and these are just the basics of some of the thing’s womyn go through. We are also not good at sports now? I love basketball and I think am good at it and girls are all weak and girly, but you would not catch me dead in a skirt because I do not even wear dresses let along skirts. Girls are supposed to sit, act, walk, and even talk in a certain way just because were girls does not mean were supposed to like guys, were supposed to wear dresses and skirts, and be all skinny and perfect. Well, I will tell you right now no one is perfect no matter how hard you try I am not perfect, and neither are you (no offense Ms. Panny😊).
A womyn that I find inspiring is Malala Yousafzai because without her girls in Pakistan would not be getting an education and we all need one to get a decent job. She gave a speech about girl’s education and later got shot by a Pakistani Taliban in an assassination attempt and even AFTER GETTING SHOT IN THE HEAD, STILL CONTINUTED TO FIGHT FOR WOMYN’S RIGHTS! Now that is what I call an activist and she won 14 awards but honestly, she deserves more than that. I am going to talk about a different womyn I find inspiring is surprisingly, Ms.Panny. She will let you rant and vent to her and will support you no matter what, she lets us do a lot of stuff in class than any other teacher. She is fun but when it comes to work, she gets STRICT. Whenever one of us gets called a name or anything like that she will REEM THEM OUT and she has got your back. The best part is we can get her to agree with to cancel math or push back due dates and honestly even though we make fun of her and say Ms. Dunnett is the best teacher, Ms. Panny is the best teacher I have ever had. I once had THREE teachers (Different years grade 2,3, AND 4) who knew I was getting bullied but did absolutely nothing about it but now I have a teacher who cares about her students and treats them like her children and will stand up for them and I can’t think of a better teacher then Ms. Panny and I am not just saying that to get a good grade I actually mean it.
In conclusion, womyn have more rights now, but we need to fix something like stereotypes not just for womyn, men too and for skin colors, religion’s, etc.
Awwwwwww, super touched 🙂
International Women’s Day:
Malala Yousafzai, we’ve all heard of her at least once, right? Malala is well known for fighting for the education of girls in Pakistan, since the Taliban had once wanted to ban the education for them. She is the youngest person to receive the Nobel Peace Prize, at age 17. One of her quotes were, “We realize the importance of our voice when we are silenced.” I’ve chosen this quote because it represents how much women/girls can be discriminated, without speaking out. Yes, women are still discriminated in a lot of countries till this very day. But think about how awful life would be like for women today, if women didn’t start speaking out and protesting about the discrimination back then. What amazes me is that so many more rights are here for women now, thanks to the brave women that were willing to protest for our rights. This quote really interests me because after reading it, I realized the things our voices can change. Even in our daily life, when we think something isn’t right, we realize that we have the ability to try and change it with our voice by speaking up.
I’ve heard, and still hear a lot of stereotypes for women/girls, and yes, it really does frustrate me. For example, “Girls aren’t as strong as boys.” I’m not saying that boys can’t be stronger than girls, but why are people assuming that girls are weaker than boys? Like, EXCUSE ME?! What about the other girls like Maya then? I also hear things from people like, “Dress like a lady! Eat like a lady! Sit like a lady! ACT like a lady!” I honestly don’t even know how to respond to people who say things like that. What do they expect us to do? Somehow be like a “lady” when we’re literally “ladies” ourselves? Some women are also paid less for their jobs, even though they’re d0ing the same type of work as men. (Which completely doesn’t make sense for me at all.)
Someone I find inspiring is one of my truly close friends, that’s in the same grade as me. She’s likely one of the smartest people I know for math, chess, etc. She’s a hard worker too, which means she puts a huge amount of effort on mostly everything she does. She often inspires me to be more productive, since I know she takes a lot of classes, and is in fact, busier than most people my age. Her having such a busy schedule, still leaves time to game with her friends. (respect) She’s also excellent at cooking, which inspires me to cook more. (Aside from the instant noodles and fried eggs I make.) She is someone who can consistently do her work without procrastinating at all times. She has made me feel better emotionally just by calling me on the phone whenever I felt stressed. She’s significant in my life because I wouldn’t have learned the things she’s taught me (like cooking, being productive, etc) if it weren’t for her. She has furthermore emotionally supported me throughout my life when I needed it.
Keala Settle. I choose this person because she song a song called “This is me” in the movie called “The greatest showman”, and the song that l liked in this movie was “This is me”. I am interested to Keala Settle because she sings really good at singing, the part when she screams in the song l don’t hear she is screaming randomly, her song always has a detail in the music and she sings with beautiful voice. Things that frustrated me that women is the name of the genders, because actually humans all base are women, when we are in a stomach we are first form close to women base, all humans are first from to women’s base so it is weird to say the male has least spelled and female has a longer spell, so if the men spells women a womyn l get frustrated, also the things that frustrated me about women treated are of course a skirt, because in scientifically this is so weird, because all women has a place where they make a baby in down of the body, making cold the place where they make a baby in bad same as healing the egg, so women have to wear a pants more then skirts, actually men have to wear a skirt, because in men’s body there is a place where they make a information of baby, worming this place to much, it will get rotten, so men sometime have to were a skirts more than pants. I will choose my mom, this person make me feel helpful and l am lucky, because this helped me a lot and teach me how women were treated. l feel lucky, because if l was born in a different place maybe l was treated badly (Can’t go to school, can’t go to place that l want to work and no money), treating badly others (Stealing money from others, treating good to person that l only like and only cares my self), and l was racist (Doesn’t caring about black lives, making fun of people that are different than others and saying refusing coloured person to go to different seat because they are coloured). Not just this person lots of people helped me and l feel like this like Ms. Panesar and Ms. Pellend.
Thank you, Sho 🙂
You guys are also great as well.) Every single girl in this class has helped me in some way, whether it’s helping me improve my mindset, gain more confidence, supporting me, or even just including me. You’ve all made me feel so welcomed the moment I entered this class. So, thank you to Drew, Jessica, Kareena, Mary, Maya, Salina, Sandra, Tamara, Tiya, and Yasmine. (+ Ms. Pano and Ms. Pelland) I really appreciate that everyone here is so open and don’t judge people the moment they set foot into this class. It’s not just the girl gang that are open, it’s also the boys, so I just want to thank everyone in general. Happy International Women’s Day ya’ll! 😀
A famous women is, “We realize the importance of our voice when were silenced, “ this quote was made by Malala Yousafzai. I chose this quote because it meant how long ago women were not able to do anything all they do is chore for there house and not able to go to school, unlike men. This quote interests me, since she made just only a few word, like how Vincent roasted Jessica.
Something that frustrates me when seeing girls or women get hurt is that they get stereotypes I hate stereotype because do don’t always even think about what their saying, all they do is try to get there very own attention. I just don’t know why all human beings are the same and treated them differently.
A women that I find inspiring is Malala Yousafzai because she was a teenager who survived assassination attempt and spoke a very powerful speech. She makes me feel to open my mind more and be more positive in life.
The quote I have chosen is, “well-behaved women rarely make history.” I chose this quote because when has anything ever happened when people stick to the shadows or let others walk all over them. Some people’s idea of a “well-behaved woman” is to be fragile, timid, quiet, obedient, etc. But in reality, women are so much more, if you confine yourself to what others expect you to be, you’ll never be able to do anything. This is what the quote is telling you not to do, don’t confine yourself because like how the quote says, you’ll never make history.
There are a million ways that women are wrongly treated, but here are some things that women in Vancouver face quite often, in many, many schools, luckily not Taylor Park, there are dress codes, and why is this sexist? Because dress codes were created to restrict women’s clothing because the boys would get “distracted”, or like in the Giver “stirrings”. These dress codes are in no way shape or form fair because if a girl wanted to wear a crop top because it was really hot and sunny out, she would be dress coded, but, if a boy wanted to completely take his shirt off, he could and no one would say anything. There is also the fact that people always assume that girls can’t play “boys” sports, like basketball, soccer, football, or any generic “male” sport. While yes, women are genetically less muscular, that doesn’t mean we can’t play any sports, in fact, many women are probably better than men at sports. Another thing that goes hand in hand with this one, is the fact that women are considered weak and need a knight in shining armour, like, hello??? WOMEN DON’T NEED OTHER PEOPLE TO BE THEIR “HEROES”! The only reason we might need a male’s help is that other people (most likely men) won’t listen to us otherwise. Many times, women will be harassed until a decent guy says something about it, our society has somehow made men more important than women, now, most people will only listen to them.
A woman in my life that is inspiring is my teacher, Ms. Panesar, she is one of the only teachers to teach us about many different cultures, religions and the types of discrimination against each group. She was the first person who taught me things that were contradictory to what other people in my life said and it forced me to think about what exactly I believed. There were things in my life that were/are so common that I didn’t think to question them, but she taught us to think again. She is the only teacher to actually give us a chance to voice our opinions about certain topics while still trying to make us better people. While yes, she does encourage us to have a certain outlook of the world, she never forces us into believing certain things. When we play sports, she always pushes the girls harder than she pushes the guys because she doesn’t want us to be confined to the gender norms, she wants us to do the opposite because often we are told that we shouldn’t do things because of that’s not “proper”. To summarize everything that has been said, she is the first teacher that actually cared more about the people we’ll become and educating us on modern-day problems (like sexism), than our grades, she treats us like we are people, not just students.
This has never been something that I really look into because the things that have been said to me and done to me only because I am a women, already makes me so mad that it takes so much out of me to look deeper into what happens to others around the world. But when I was giving the opportunity to look into quotes from women over the world, Ntozake Shange’s quote: “Where there is a woman, there is magic.” It really stood out to me because of how true it is, in every way amazing when it comes to looks personality and specialized hobbies, we sand out and come together to bring each other up. And in the smallest ways we make ourselves and that is what makes us so powerful and so strong that even all the discrimination we have gone through we still have the bravery to pushthrough.
Being a girl that does not take crap from anyone (mostly boys, men) or anyone that has to time in their day to push others down. I have been told that I “_______ like a girl” or “your good at ____ for a girl” and many more things that are about girls being only semi god at things that are about physical activity’s and it brings me back to some Really sad memories because of how old I was when they happened. First I always played soccer with the boys music girls and stereo typically be making bracelets out of grass and leaves and headbands out of flowers but I was picked on I was called slurs They made me feel like I did not belong on that soccer field. I was told that I was a man deep down because a girl could never play like that. And I would walk into class filled with mud and I was told by my teacher to stop getting so dirty but i could not tell her that the boys would kick the ball really far and make me go and get it. But the worst part is that I did not have a voice and I do not speak up. So I’m telling all of you who are reading this to stand up for yourself speak because not even 50 years ago we did not have this voice but now we do so use it.
I idolize people and then they turn back go against all the things they said as Youtubers would be canceled for saying slurs years ago and then Losing millions of followers then I’ll move onto the next one and slowly I realize there was nobody to idolize because there’s nobody that I really wanted to be or look up to you. So I started I like myself I started documenting everything every little move I made, and then once I look back on all the things I’ve done and then I would look back and only thank myself. So I’m sorry if this does not answer your question but if I would choose somewhere around the world a woman that I would idolize and look up to and learn from her mistakes would be my self.
3. My grandma is special because she makes good food after school. She pick us up and drive us to school. Grandma pack us a snack every day. My grandma is nice and she had a very good happy day. Ms. Pelland is nice because she help out and I like her a lot 😊. I love my mom because she is nice and love. My favourite helper is Jessica because she helps me out when Ms. Pelland is not here. My favourite classmate is Tamara because she help me out in music class. In secret santa Sandra got me an awesome gift. My favourite Techer is Ms. Panesar because she is cool, cool and cool.
Awwww, thank you Daniel 🙂
