Dear Students,
I hope that everyone had a restful and quite long spring break. Our plans to return to school has not worked out due to the fact that people around the world are sick. As you know, your parents, teachers and everyone in your community are working so hard to keep you safe and healthy. Your responsibility at this moment is to practice the Growth Mindset and good hygiene habits that we learned and used in our classroom.
I know that we lost the luxury of going outdoor for physical activities or nature walks to relax our mind and body. We are missing out on things that we enjoyed the most. You may feel frustration, confusion, and even anger sometimes. As we learned in “Second Step” and “Growth Mindset”, we can find a way to control those feelings and our behaviour. Taking deep breaths, counting to 10 and even five minutes of meditation are the strategies we used in our classroom. Now it’s time to use those skills at home.
This week, we will be rolling out some classroom related activities. The most important thing right now is your family’s health and happiness. The purpose of these activities is to do some learning at home, and get into some routines. Take this opportunity to help your parents/guardians with cooking and cleaning the same way you helped with class jobs.
If you follow these steps, I am sure you will find happiness at home. Most likely, you will keep your family healthy and happy. I will be waiting for your photographs and you can send me an email anytime.
Weekly assignments:
Weekly assignments for the next week will be emailed on Friday (do not need to start until Monday) and are expected to be completed by Friday 6:00pm. The family plays a vital role in student learning, especially during a time like this. Please take photos of your child’s work or them doing the activity. You can also scan it if you wish. This will be the only way I can see their work until schools are reopened (hopefully soon). One email once a week from each student’s family will be expected as I still need to assess your child’s learning. Feel free to contact me if you are unclear about the assignments or you have questions or concerns.
Supplies:
The following supplies are needed for majority of the assignments. If you do not have these items, please let me know as soon as you can.
Supplies needed for assignments:
- pencil
- eraser
- box of paper clips (at least 100)- for Math activities later on
- crayons or pencil crayons
- felt markers
- pencil sharpener
- scissors
- glue stick
- white paper
- helpful if you have a printer or access to one (not all activities will require a printer, just a few)
