i think it was a good and a bad idea to banish cole an island

from the book ”touching spirit bear”

I think banishing Cole to an island by himself was a bad idea because Cole has a bad reputation and that he was going to do something stupid life try to escape or burn all his materials.i also think it was a bad idea to banishing he to a island because he just gets so mad that maybe if he got so mad he might kill himself or he might drown trying to escape. I do think it was a good idea to banish Cole to island by himself because they thought that Cole wanted to change because that’s what he said.that’s why i think it has a good and bad idea to send  Cole Matthews to an island by himself what do you think?

SHOULD COLE BE BANISHED TO A REMOTE ISLAND

I personally think Cole should be sent to jail! He smashed peter driskols skull into the side walk! Cole was also mean and threatening. Cole threatened  peter, “your a dead man,” touching spirit bear page 7.Cole was taking it out on the spirit Bear, “A bear with half a brain would have turned tail and run. Instead this dumb animal had attacked.”, he thought. Page 69
Cole wanted to take it out on the baby sparrows.”if I where the mother I would leave them to fend for themselves”,he thought.”She didn’t ow them anything”.”Without his injuries he could have crawled up and and knocked the nest down”,” that what the stupid birds deserved”he thought. Page 75

Why is banishing Cole(the main character) a good idea?

-I think banishing Cole was a good idea, because when he saw the spirit bear he tried to kill it.

-And he spoke when he din’t have the white feather.

-He lied about trusting and joining the circle justice about healing.

-He also burned the sack on the island with all the supplies in it.

-He tired escaping the island but instead the waves pushed him back to the island , and that’s when he saw the spirit bear.

-Cole hit Peter hard, until Peter was seriously injured.

-Cole and Peter met at the hearing justice because Cole beat Peter.

-Cole did’t even try to be good, instead he keeps on trying to escape.

Banishment is better than a jail cell, and it doesn’t bring any good. letting Cole into nature and letting him be by himself  is a better way of letting him learn. His dad and mom don’t really care about him so thats why he is acting like a not trained person. He has actually punched peter before.

And Garvey had always told him that:”what you do to the animals, you do to yourself, remember that”.Cole always thought that was crazy and he did’t get what Garvey meant. But maybe  until he and the spirit bear had attacked, he might learn a lesson.

I think banishing Cole was a good idea

recently in our novel Touching Spirit Bear we have been talking about if banishing Cole (the main character) is a good idea, and I think banishing Cole was a good idea because,Cole could spend time alone and think about himself and all the people he hurt.  I also think its a good idea because he can spend time away from friends, drugs, and other bad things. Like Garvey said in our novel Touching Spirit Bear page 56. “it allows the offender a long period free of friends, drugs, alcohol and other influences that have gotten him in trouble.” Garvey also said “Cole could undergo a vision quest of sorts an extended time alone to face himself and to face the angry sprites inside him” as I also mentioned in my first reason. Cole would also not hurt anyone for a year because he would be on a island

Is banishing Cole the right decision? (Touching Spirit Bear)

Recently in our Touching Spirit Bear study, we read a part where the main character, Cole Matthews, had severely injured Peter Driscal. The community has been trying to come up with a punishment that will heal Cole. A man named Garvey suggested banishment to an island in Alaska. I think that this is a good idea because, if it was a bad idea, then why would Garvey suggest it in the first place. He is a native Tlingit and is from Alaska, so he would know if it was a bad idea. He says that others have gone and healed there. Banishment for Cole will also be a better choice for Cole than jail. As the Keeper from Circle justice says, jail will not heal, it can only anger them. Jail is not good for Cole because the environment around him is bad, but on the island, he is alone with nature . Banishment can also let Cole be alone and have time think and learn respect and humility. He will be away from people he can hurt and people who anger him. That is why I think Banishment is the best choice for Cole.

Banishing Cole And Why I think It Was A Good Idea

We have been reading this book called Touching Spirit Bear and we have  been wondering if banishing Cole was a good idea or a bad idea. Here are some of my ideas.

I think that banishing Cole was a good idea and here are my reasons why. Garvey said that the banishment was “an extended time alone to face himself and to face the angry spirits inside of him.” Page 56. Cole was not doing well because he was angry to himself because his dad was angry to him all the time. Second, when Garvey gave the at.oow to Cole he wanted him to give it to someone he trusted. Third, Cole found himself in a bad spot when he was in the circle justice meetings and he wanted to be on the island because he did not want to be in jail. He also burned the shelter because he was angry and he tried to burn the at.oow but he missed the fire. He didn’t like the place but I think that him going there was a good idea  Banishing Cole was a good idea because it gave Cole a chance to ” find himself there.”
