When I went to the aquavan presentation I met Fred, Katy, Robin and Julia. They were talking about the arctic and where the south pole and the north pole is. First they asked us to point at antarctica then showed us how far the ice of the arctic a thousand years ago and how it increased or decreased throughout the years. Then they split us into 4 groups of 8-10 people.

First my group went to our station and we talked about seals and how they lived. We also talked about if the icebergs melted then it will mess up the food chain.First the icebergs and if the icebergs and the glaciers melt then all of the small animals that live under them will all be extinct. After all of the animals under the icebergs and glaciers die then fish can’t eat so soon all of fish in the arctic will all dead. Then if all of the fish die then it’s predators the seal or narwhals can’t eat so then they will become extinct. After the seal and the narwhals become extinct then whoever the predator of the animal is/polar bear can’t eat then if the polar bear can’t eat then soon they will cease to exist. Finally if the polar bear doesn’t exist anymore then people who live in the north can’t eat the some people will start starving then die. That’s what Fred showed us about the food chain. Plus between every station they show us real alive animals that live in the ocean. After went to the next station and learned about the arctic fox and how they lived in their natural habitat. We also learned how they camouflage in the snow like polar bears. After we went to see the arctic fox we learned about turtle and tortoises and how big they can get.

FACT: Turtles and tortoises can get up to 2 meters in height.

Finally we went to see the killer whales and how they communicate from far distances.

FACT: Killer whale can hear from their jaws just like humans.

After when my group finished we went to the middle of the gym and waited until the other groups finish. After when everyone finished everybody got in a circle and shared what we learned and what was new to you and what was a review. After we finished we said thank you to Fred, Katy, Robin and julia.

And that concludes my reflection.

Seals On The Menu

Seals On The Menu

This year is Canada’s sesquicentennial and a restaurant on Granville island called Edible Canada is celebrating by putting Harp seal on the menu, the Edible Canada still going to put Harp seals on the menu even if they attract some negative attention and debating. When Mr.Milloy told us what we think about Harp seals being on the menu.the class is debated whether Harp seals should be on the menu.Mr.Milloy told us to write a draft about Harp seals on the menu and now the class is going to write about it on are blogs.I didn’t know whether you should or shouldn’t eat Harp seals so I decided to do both reasons.

Reasons why we can eat Harp seals.

The government allows licensed people to harvest 400,000 Harp seals a year but people only harvest around 35,000 a year.Harp seals are a great source of food, they are very nutritious and it’s good to try a new type of food.First nations and inuit people can eat seals so we can eat it too.

I believe that it is perfectly fine to eat Harp seals.

Reasons why we shouldn’t eat Harp seals

The government allows people to harvest 400,000 Harp seals a year which is a lot.The government should lower the amount of Harp seals you can harvest in a year because if we harvest that many seals then the Harp seals will go extinct.First nations and inuit people use all the parts of the animal even their eyes, fur and blubber which I am totally okay with but people probably don’t use all the parts of the seals which is a waste.Harp seals can’t produce seals pups that fast and the seal pups needs their mother’s and father’s protection from predators. It also needs food to survive like we do,seal pups can’t hunt yet so it needs mother and father to feed the pup.Without food, protection, mother and a father then there won’t be any Harp seals pups which means there won’t be any more seals.

I think we should definitely never eat seals ever.

I believe that seals can be on the menu but the government should lower the amount of seals hunted per year to only around 35,000.

Thank you so much for reading my blog article about seals on the menu and I hope you have a wonderful day or night.

Seal Writing Opinion

I think seals should not be served on the menu because thousands of seals are killed each year and in my opinion i feel that will end up decreasing the population like in 2007 OVER 90,000 seals were killed, in 2008 275,000 seals were killed, anyway the finished number from all the years (2007-2010)  is 975,000 WOW thats alot.and have you seen their faces their Super Cute

My Aquavan Reflections

Some workers at the Vancouver aquarium named aquavan came to visit the school on February eighth, two thousand seventeen . Despite the horrible whether at the time, aquavan able to give sessions to every class, as every two classes went at a time. The entire experience was amazing! I learned a lot of things about the ocean, sea animals, and a little bit of global warming.

I don’t think that people should add harp seal’s in restaurants because there population will start to decrease and there will be a higher chance of harp seal’s of becoming extinct.                                                                                     I also think why people shouldn’t add harp seal’s in restaurants because most people probably won’t use all of the parts except the Inuit use all of the parts which I think is fine because they are not wasting the them.                                                                                Lastly why I don’t think you should add harp seals in restaurants is because the Canadian government  is now allowing to harvest 400,000 harp seal in restaurants but  people are only harvesting around 30,000 harp seals which might sound like a little amount but some people think that it’s a big amount which I agree that harvesting 30,000 harp seals is an enormous amount.                          This is why I don’t suggest adding harp seal’s in restaurants.

Serving seal in restaurants

A restaurant is serving seal for their seasonal menu,The government allows the hunting and eating harp seals also the government only allows 500,000 to be killed each year,we only kill 35,000. there’s a lot of them. The population of harp seal is 7,000,000 World wide and 1.mill-2.mill in the north so eating the amount we kill now won’t harm the population all.they do it in the least painful way.the way they the harp seals are Fast and easy so it’s not as sad once they kill the seal.a reason that could make me go to the other side is that harp seals don’t harm people in no way and are absolutely adorable.
