This great book has been helping us think (& I hope learn) about others and ourselves. If you haven’t read the book and want to avoid any spoilers, let this be your spoiler alert.
I’m wondering what you think some of the characters in the book learned over the course of the story. (Of course, I’m even more interested in WHY you think so.) Share your thoughts with a comment.
The character, Via, impressed me because of the way she understood that often August’s needs had to come before hers. She didn’t just keep quiet and stew silently over it, nor did she hold a grudge. She knew her life was different than her friends’ lives. She knew she missed out on some things, but she could also see all the good things about her family.
In the end, I think Via learned that it was OK for her to be honest with herself about her feelings. She learned that if she admitted that it was sometimes hard to be August’s sister, it did not mean that she didn’t want to be his sister. Learning that might have made her an even better sister.
I felt sad for Auggie, when Dasiy died near the end of the book, Wonder.
Auggie learned that not all living animals could live very long like we do.
I thing that the character Amos in Wonder learned a lesson. In the end of the story, Amos ditched Julian and started hanging out with August, he knew that hanging out with Julian would make him like Julian. Amos also defended Auggie when he got into a fight with Eddie. (Amos does not hang out with August that much) So I’m saying, the lesson that Amos learned was to choose your friends wisely. He didn’t care if he was in the popular group, he cared about who he felt comfortable with, and who was kinder than necessary. Amos didn’t feel good with Julian. So, the people who you hang out with can change you. Amos made a good choice. I hope you did. This character inspired me. I hope he inspired you. But when you read Wonder.
I think that Henry learned an important lesson. He used to hang out with Julian so much that he became Julian but when he saw August in trouble he helped him and I am pretty sure that, that was the moment he learned that the people you hang out with will make you just like them and everybody will recognize you as a part of there group. No matter if you’re good or bad. This character inspired me. I hope he inspired you. But when you read Wonder then the real fun begins!
