Socials 11 – In-class Essay Tip

Tomorrow you will be writing your first in-class essay. The following is a list of Do’s and Don’ts.

Do:

  • bring your M.A.N.I.A booket
  • bring your Apocalypse: Video Questions
  • bring any other additional notes
  • bring a pen
  • double-space
  • staple your notes to your essay when you are done
  • take your time to re-read and make corrections or additions.

Don’t

  • have your phone out
  • have a pre-written essay
  • have notes posing as a pre-written essay
  • stress out. School is about developing skills and not chasing a number.

Socials 11 – B.C. Human Rights Tribunal

  1. Go to my twitter account and preview the Human Rights articles. Choose one.
  2. Answer the following in full sentences and and paragraph where appropriate.
    1. Name the article you have chosen to prepare your assignment on.
    2. What has been presented to the B.C. Human Rights Tribunal and why? ( 1 mark)
    3. Explain what type of discrimination that has been filed with the B.C. Human Rights Tribunal. State the accused’s defense, if there is one. (2 marks)
    4. In paragraph format, consider yourself a judge on the Human Rights Tribunal. Consider the evidence you gathered from the article, the claim of discrimination made, and your resolution of the matter. Provide specific reasons based on fact. Remember, a paragraph includes a topic sentence/ thesis, relevant supports, and an effective conclusion. (12 marks) DUE next class.
