All I Want For Christmas

How does math apply to real life?  Today, the grade five students wrote their wishlists for the holidays to estimate how much it would all cost.  After brainstorming your list and researching the prices, you had to use some mathematical thinking to determine the estimated total.  Some of you certainly had big items on your lists such as a trip to DisneyLand! 

Can you think of other situations in your everyday lives that require mathematical thinking?  What are some of them?  What skills and knowledge would you need to use?
