The FIFA Women’s World Cup
This weekend the FIFA Women’s world cup kicked off with an exciting game of Canada verses China. Christine Sinclair, of Burnaby BC had just converted a penalty kick in the second minute of second-half stoppage time, giving Canada a 1-0 win over China on Saturday in the opening match of the Women’s World Cup. Canada was awarded the penalty by the referee after Adriana Leon was elbowed in the head and taken down by Rong Zhao. It was the first match of the month long tournament played across six Canadian cities. The United States opened Monday against Australia, and the final game is set for July 5 2015.

I am following the women’s world cup too, Ashley and Aria. It is so exciting that it is here in our city, and I plan to go downtown and participate in some of the festivities. I know that Christine Sinclair hails from Burnaby and played for the Burnaby Girls Soccer Club so it is neat to have a hometown girl leading Canada.
