It’s starting to look festive!

Our classroom is starting to look very festive as we study holidays celebrated around the world. So far we have visited Mexico, Brazil, Germany,  the Netherlands, France, and Italy. We get to see where the country is on a map, look at the weather, see some pictures of the country, learn about their holiday traditions, and how to wish others a happy holiday in the country’s language.

Brazil’s tinsel tailed bird and Mexico’s poinsettias.

The Netherlands clogs and France’s yule logs.

Just for fun we made some ornaments and created an aboriginal inspired winter scene. The Aboriginal art is done by Michelle Stoney, a Gitxsan artist.

We’re looking forward to continuing our travels until the Winter break!

Welcome to our class blog!

Hello Families of Div. 9!

I’ve created this blog as a way for you to “enter” our classroom. I will be posting information and photos about what we are working on  so that we are all more connected.

Currently, we have been working on responsibility/respect for our space as a classroom community. Each student has a classroom job (desktop checker, coatroom checker, gardener, line leader, etc.) They get 5 pompoms to fill the Warm Fuzzy jar each day and can keep those Warm Fuzzies if they complete their jobs all day. They help each other out by telling friends when they have forgotten to do their jobs. Warm Fuzzies are taken away when they do not do their jobs as a community, but they earn extra Warm Fuzzies for acts of kindness. When the Warm Fuzzy jar is full they will have a Pajama day.

One of the students asked if we could learn how to tell time, so we will be practicing how to read a clock for the next little while.
