It is my hope that all students are able to find a way to experience quality music in our community. In order to encourage this, I have put together a list of just SOME of the amazing music available in our community. Below is a list of free festivals, concerts and concert series you can visit… all located in Burnaby and neighbouring cities of Coquitlam, Vancouver, Port Moody and New Westminster.
FREE FESTIVALS:+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
● Vancouver International Jazz Festival‘s free stages return in 2022. Two of the biggest free outdoor presentations — Georgia Stage and Sounds of Youth Stage at the Vancouver Art Gallery (June 25 to 26) and David Lam Park (July 2 to 3) — are expected to draw massive crowds for the free shows. ● Queen’s Park Art Festival, New Westminster: The brand-new Queen’s Park Arts Festival is set to run from July 6 to 10. You can enjoy live music, swing dance, poetry, new media, outdoor theatre, kids’ arts and more at various times, all centred on the Queen’s Park bandshell and farm.
● Khatsahlano Street Party returns to Kitsilano in Vancouver on July 9. Many bands play up and down West 4th as well as street vendors etc. More info: https://www.facebook.com/Khatsahlano/
● Uptown Live! rocks the central streets of New Westminster on Saturday, July 16. A calendar is available at http://www.uptownlive.ca/
● Coquitlam’s Kaleidoscope Arts Festival returns to Lafarge lake on August 19th.
SINGLE CONCERTS:++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
● Vancouver Symphony Orchestra returns to play live on Festival Lawn at Deer Lake Park on Saturday, July 16 at 7 pm
● Children’s Artist “Music With Marnie” performs two free concerts at Trout Lake Park in Vancouver on July 8 and August 19. Events are free but register online.
CONCERT SERIES:++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
● Monday Music in the Park: Enjoy live music by the totem pole outside Centennial Lodge on Monday evenings, July 4, 11, 18 and 25, from 6 to 8 p.m.
● Moody Park Daytime Series: Enjoy arts at Moody Park on Thursdays from 1 to 3 p.m., July 7, 14, 21 and 28.
● Queen’s Park Concert Series: Catch concerts in the park on Thursdays at 7 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m., with shows on July 7, 8, 9, 10, 14, 17, 21, 24, 28 and 31.
** Royal City Concert Band plays June 30 at 7 pm — Ms. Lee & Ms. Spring play in the band! Come and check it out! 🙂
● Fridays on Front: The arts council will offer up a concert series as part of the Fridays on Front fun, running 5 to 8 p.m. on July 8, 15, 22 and 29.
