November updates…

Today is Day of the Dead! or Día de los Muertosday-of-the-dead

The multi-day holiday focuses on gatherings of family and friends to pray for and remember friends and family members who have died, and help support their spiritual journey.

Div.4 news:

  • Nov 4 – we walk to Central Park in the afternoon (12:30-2:30) and will go RAIN or SHINE, so please DRESS FOR THE WEATHER. That means raincoat and rubber boots if it’s raining. Hiking boots/shoes or otherwise sturdy footwear is required.
  • Nov 11Remembrance Day (no school)
  • Nov 21Young People’s Concert (our first one). We walk, so please come prepared for weather.rainboots-and-umbrella

Halloween is coming!

Please remember this Wednesday we’ll be visiting the Pumpkin Patch (right here at Maywood Community) and in the afternoon, we’ll be carving our pumpkins. I’d be happy to have any parent volunteers join us!

It’s BLOG time!

Div. 4, we’ve loaded your names onto the district blog site and you now have the ability to post your work to your own, personal blog (which is housed in LANAWAY’S LOUNGE).

Parents: please remember students are not to use their full names or post pictures of themselves. I ask that you do the same (when commenting). But don’t panic! — I must read and publish all posts and comments before they go live (before they can be seen by the you, the public). Check our Blogging Guidelines for more on this.

This blog site is a tool for students to improve their personal writing skills. We invite you to join in our enthusiasm. So please READ OUR BLOG, and feel free to leave comments.

Enjoy! happy-blogging

Building our Four Agreements!

Div 4 is beginning to look at what kind of learning community do we want to be. To start, we discussed what we need to feel safe and trusting in a group (see our brainstorm below). Following that we discussed what makes an ideal classroom – what kind of behaviours would make this the ideal classroom?

Some common themes are coming up!

  • inclusion
  • being helpful, caring, and kind
  • being self-aware
  • avoiding aggressive behaviour
  • listening to each other
  • being a good friend (sticking up for one another, staying loyal, giving good advice).
  • And let’s not forget the GOLDEN RULE: Do unto others as you would have done to you.

Well done, Div. 4!! We’re off to a great start!! 🙂

Welcome back!

Don’t forget…

  • Wed, June 22 is early dismissal – 2pm.
  • Last day of school is Wed, June 29 with an early dismissal  – 10am.

All our clay works have gone home, so be sure to take a look at your child’s beautiful clay tile and pinch pot.

OUR CLAY TILES ARE DONE!

And they look fantastic! I’m so pleased with the work of Div. 3 artists! Take a look!

Consider…what colours stand out to you? Do you have favourite colour combinations? Do you prefer the naturescapes or are you partial to the creative designs of the Zentangle-inspired tiles?

We all have different sensibilities when it comes to art. There is no right or wrong, just what engages us, makes us think or feel something, or maybe it is simply aesthetic. One thing is for sure – this diversity of artistic expression makes us RICH!
