Plant Walk and Science World!

What a great couple field trips we’ve had this month!

We finished our Plants unit (Science) with a special plant walk with indigenous plant specialist, Cease Wyss, who told us many stories of plants and their special qualities. Thank you, Cease! Though it was a rainy day, it was great to learn so much from you!

We also went to Science World and participated in a Chemistry Lab, learning about pH, solutions and reactions. What a great day!

Blog 12: How well do I Manage Stress?

Stress, stress, stress. One of my (Least) favourite things to talk and write about. Like us, stress can come in many different forms and can be expressed in different ways. Usually, kids like us don’t experience different types of stress.  The forms of stress I experience are:

  1. Homework:

Homework is one of those really stressful things in life that REALLY GRINDS MY GEARS. Sorry about that, I just have to represent my extreme dislike in some way. Most of us students (Except the 1% of people who really love homework) have quite a deep hatred for homework. Time is of the essence when you’re doing homework. This is one of the most important things to keep in your mind if you want to get your homework done on time. Time management is one of those things that Ms. Lanaway  always reminds us to do.

Step One: DON’T PUT IT OFF. If you have homework and you aren’t over-scheduled or too busy, it’s a good idea to do your homework because if you always say to yourself, “it’s fine, I can do it later”, then you will eventually not be able to finish it. Step Two: MAKE TIME. This is also really important because it has to do with time (Time is a key/important word, as you can see).  I you are over-scheduled or too busy, you won’t get the opportunity to do your homework. If your parents say that you have go to something, you either decline (politely), or you do that quickly and then start your work. Always remember one thing: TIME

Step Two: BE ORGANIZED. Don’t lose your materials. be organized, keep track of where your stuff is and make sure you bring the stuff you need (That was a surprisingly short step!).

  1. Conflict With Family and Friends

Conflict with family and friends is one of the most stressful things in life. For instance, while you’re having dinner, you say something you didn’t mean to say. Or you have have a disagreement about something and start to quarrel. I’ve noticed that many people with siblings (Older or younger), fight quite frequently. This happens because of jealousy or competition. Fights with your parents usually leaves you getting a verbal chastisement. You should always try to avoid squabbles with your friends and family, and if you do start to bicker, you should try and follow these steps:

Step 1. Someone else’s view:

You should try to understand what the other person is trying to imply and try to find middle ground. Then the argument can be resolved.

Step 2. Be respectful:

While you’re resolving your argument, speak respectfully. Ms. Lanaway taught us to use “I” statements. An example of an I statement is:“I felt… when…”. Do this instead of accusing someone else while protecting yourself. Exchange I statements and you understand what the other person is feeling.

Step 3. Get over it: Come to a mutual agreement or understanding and be kind to each other again. Just because you had this one fight doesn’t mean that the other person is evil. Enjoy being together and have fun.

Like I said at the beginning, kids like us don’t experience many different stressful situations (And even if we did, I still wouldn’t write them all because it would be too long), but I hope you enjoyed reading this blog. I think I am decent at managing my stress using these strategies in these situations. I also hope you found it helpful in some of your stressful situations. Bye!

What We Did this Morning

What we did this morning was that we were talking about strategies on how we could deal with stress and solutions on how we could stop stress, what I normally do is that I drink cold water or I go to the couch and think for a minute or two and then I go back and I take things slowly. The way I deal with homework is that I drink a cold glass of water or I go outside and cool off or I take deep breathes but just because you have stress doesn’t mean you put off your work you still do it nut cool off when your stressed. What causes me to be stressed is that my sister is always mean to me and she calls me an idiot whenever I’m trying to help her out and when she says I do it wrong and when I’m actually doing it right she gets mad and she starts calling me an idiot and all sorts of names. Even when she gets mad at me and I get mad at her than I get in trouble when she started calling me names sometimes I think they hate me but that’s not it it’s just because my sister is older than me and my mom mostly believes her than me. But whenever I’m stressed I go outside and play soccer or I just take a deep breathe or go on the couch but I really don’t do that’s because my sister is always there so I just get cold glass of water. It works for me it should work for you too

Blog #10: Why Does August Deserve the Henry Beacher Award?

“Greatness lies not in being strong, but in the right use of strength… He is the strongest whom carries up the most hearts by attraction of his own.”               -Mr.Tushman

Throughout his life, August wasn’t accepted. During his time at Beacher Prep, August finds people who would stand up for him and fight for him, even if it would put them in harm’s way. Jack Will used to only care about being popular. After Jack Will became August’s friend, he learned about humiliation and being treated like dirt. In the fight with the 7th Graders, August, Jack, Amos, and Miles fought them off. After the fight, everyone recognized August’s courage. Later, August becomes recognized and earns everyone’s respect. He was finally accepted and appreciated by other kids! All of August’s friends were lifted up. All of them didn’t care about what others might’ve thought about them because they were happy.

August inspired others, and even though he was labeled as different, he showed bravery and rose above the cruelty of others. He showed bravery, helpfulness, and kindness (Even to his enemies). This way, he carried up the hearts of others by his own attraction. He carried those hearts up because of what he was on the inside, not the outside. August is truly a wonder.

I have lots thing I like to do. I like to play video games. My favorite video games is Block N Load, is a games you can download at steam and it’s free .I like to play this game because this game is fun and you can play multiplayer ,you choose someone and you kill another player. This game is all block so is like Minecraft, you can build blocks to protect your turret and someone need to destroy another player’s turret.

I like to play sport too, my favourite sport is badminton. I have lesson every Friday, and I play badminton every Sunday. Every time when we play badminton my aunt drive me and my brother to where we play badminton, we like to play badminton, but I’m not so good at badminton so I ask my parent can I have a badminton lesson, and my parent agree. So now I have badminton lesson now.

This two is my favourite thing to do.

Blog#10 Why is Auggie deserving of this medal

I think Auggie deserving of this medal because Auggie showed lot of bravery. He showed lot of because he doesn’t give up easily and because all his life, he wasn’t accepted. Still he kept going, he find someone who accepted him, and Auggie earned everyone’s respect and brave, even is hard, he still do it. People always make fun of him but he kept going, he always try his best. For example when then are in the jungle and they meet 3 boy is bigger than him, the 3 boys are laughing Auggie they think they find alien, and they be very mean to Auggie and his friend, but he doesn’t give up, he didn’t cry, he is a strong person.

That’s why I think Auggie deserving of this medal.

Blog#12 How well do I Manage stress

I think that sometime when you angry, you will feel stress. When I feel stress, I away walk away and cool down myself, so that can make you feel better, sometime when I feel stress, I talk about our feeling and it will make you feels better too.

I feel that homework will make you stress sometime, sometime you didn’t give yourself enough time to finish homework or maybe you finish your homework but you didn’t bring the homework to school, so next time you need to put your homework before you sleep.

This is how I manage stress when I feel stress.

Riding my BMX and my ATV

I like riding my ATV because I like how it goes really fast. The most I enjoy about it is that I could get to places faster I could go to the store faster get food and enjoy life. I sometimes go 120 kph because it cools me down and I like hitting bumps because I like how it bounces me in the air. Sometimes I bring my friends along to come ride with me but I don’t sometimes because they got they their own atv. I ride a BMX bike because it’s fun going fast down the roads and going to the BMX Park. One of my friends named Jerome told me to get a BMX bike so I did. I started liking BMX bikes because now I could bike with my friends to get exercise now and then. But now that I moved it’s a whole different story.
