In Socials, you’ll be looking at What is History? In Science, we begin a unit of study in Theory of Evolution: Natural Selection, Diversity and the Survival of Living Things. It will be busy right up to our first reporting period, so please keep up to date on homework and project/assignments.

FREE Transit Day Field Trip to Deer Lake is Wednesday, Oct 4th

What better way to kick off the school year with a field trip to Deer Lake, followed by an afternoon of Meeting Maywood’s Leaders!

Wednesday, Oct 4th, we’ll be accompanying our little buddies to Deer Lake for a full day field trip. We will be playing forest games and walking along the lake, enjoying the last of the warm weather. Please dress for VARIABLE weather. That means: layers, rain coats if it looks like rain, and sunscreen if it looks like sun. Always proper foot wear, and of course snacks, lunch, and a water bottle.

Hot lunch students: you will be provided with a bagged lunch for the day; usually a cheese sandwich (or bun), piece of fruit and juice box. You may want to supplement this lunch with extra snacks if your child is big eater!

I’m looking for a volunteer or two to join us this day. Please contact me if you would like to come, or have any other questions. kerri.lanaway@sd41.bc.ca

Welcome to the new Gr. 6/7’s in Div. 4!!

I am so pleased to meet the new grade 6/7’s of Div. 4! Welcome, students AND parents, to Lanaway’s Lounge!

I hope that you will come to use this site regularly for class updates, blogging and creating your e-Portfolios!

We have an exciting year ahead!

Our electronic homework board is now up and running! Entering homework into the electronic is a student led task. Please be aware that students are ultimately responsible for writing homework assignments in their planner before going home and that some assigned work may not make it into the online calendar.

Welcome Back!

With a great (but somewhat smokey) summer behind us, I’m excited to get back into the SWING of things! I am SO looking forward to meeting new faces and co-creating a new classroom community of learners.

Last year’s Div. 4’s will remain with me (Rm. 112) for this first week, and will be assigned new teachers at the beginning of next week. School supplies for this first week should remain simple – pens, pencils, and pencil crayons (or felts) for colouring. We will be outside lots, so dress for the weather (sunscreen, hat, etc).

Once you have your new teacher for the year, you will be given a supply list, as some teachers may have different classroom needs. We appreciate your patience!

My class list for this year can be accessed here: School Supplies List_2017

Only one week left!

Students and Parents:

With one week left, we are wrapping up the last of our projects, cleaning up our binders and bins, and preparing to complete this school year! How exciting! This year we did so much, and what a great community of friends and learners we’ve all been. I’m sad to have us go our separate ways, but hope that you all take a much needed rest and enjoy all the excitement the summer has to offer. I wish for us all many outdoor adventures – camping, swimming, hiking, boating, visiting friends, and enjoying the long summer nights with loved ones! Please play safe and have a fantastic summer!! We’ll see you in the fall!

Blog #10 – Why I Think That Auggie Deserved the Henry Ward Beecher Award

I think that Auggie Pullman deserved the Henry Ward Beecher Award because he is always so nice to his friends, even when they have not been nice to him (ex. When Julian sent Auggie the nasty notes and when Jack was talking trash about Auggie) Auggie still didn’t say anything bad about them or anything like that.

Auggie is also extremely friendly and has a heart of gold which makes up for the way his face looks. Not only that, but Auggie also tries really hard to lift people’s hearts up and to make new friends. Auggie is also helpful (when he helped Jack with his homework) and if you want someone who is nice, smart, friendly, and helpful, you won’t find anyone who is better for the job.

Auggie has taught many people a lesson and made a lot of people’s life’s better which is why I think that Auggie deserved this award.

Better security for schools/world

Hello my name is Brian and I’m here to talk about safety

Reason: because a long time ago there was a break in from broken window

Example: first time I was in this classroom (Ms.Lanaway’s class) I saw broken window and wood covering it

2nd reason: the whole world has a lot of break ins. And I don’t like it.

2nd example: my mom’s car got broken in 3 times one underground at my apartment in the visitor parking, one above and, another underground in my apartment in visitor parking
