Important Information for RETURN TO SCHOOL

Hello Division 4 families:

For those of you who have indicated that your child will be returning to school next week.  It is crucial that you read ALL the information sent by the school and myself (below) very carefully.

The safety of students and staff remains our number one priority.  Accordingly, it is very important that parents and families adhere to the following measures:

  • Parents/families need to stay with your child(ren) until the teacher arrives so that they can do a daily health check.
  • Parents/families need to pick up and drop off their child(ren) at the exact times listed below.
  • Please only bring essential items to school:
    • lunch, snack, water bottle.
    • a novel (if you have one) that you are reading
    • school supplies and paper that you need to work with/on (the school will NOT be allowing “sharing” of school supplies – please be prepared)

The schedule below shows Division 4’s drop off and pick up times, as well as the location for entry.  Signs will be posted at the entry locations.

As always, we hope this finds you and your loved ones safe & healthy.

Greetings!

As you may have heard, as per the direction of the Government of BC, a staged re-opening of schools begins June 1st. Maywood Community would like to update you on the school’s expansion plans for in-class instruction, as well is requesting some information from you that will assist us with a smooth transition to this next phase.

As a return to the school building is optional for families, in order for us to plan appropriately, we need to have a sense of how many students might return the week of June 1st. A letter has been sent to all families.

Please read the attached and complete the survey found there by Monday, May 25th at 9 am.

Math teachers have started a new program – Mathletics!

Hi friends,

I have some exciting news to share with you! Many of you have already received emails outlining the new Math program, Mathletics, which will be replacing Sumdogs as our primary platform for online learning in Math. While Sumdog has been fun for games and extra practice, we’ve found that Mathletics rolls all our Math needs into one – practice, tutorials and lessons, games, and more!

Ms. Macartney, Mr. Sanderson, and I have sent login information to our Math students (and parents); Ms. Fix will be soon, so please keep an eye out for the email (and don’t lose it as it will have your login info)!

Ms. Macartney and I will be having a mandatory live lesson, next Tuesday @ 1pm (each, in our respective Teams) to help students get started. Students, please check your email/invites and RSVP. Next Wednesday, new assignments will be given.

Students are encouraged to to continue to use their Math Team site and Outlook email for communication from their Math teachers.

Social Studies Lesson Invitation

Parents and students:

Please be aware that tomorrow, Thursday, May 14th at 11:00 am there will be a live Social Studies lesson, provided by Mr. Wong that has mandatory attendance (if your family situation allows, of course). This class is crucial to students’ understanding of up-coming assignments for Social Studies and will further support your child in their progress. We’re excited to be offering a live session that offers student interaction and engagement, with more one-on-one and immediate support to students. While I understand some people may not have access to their devices at this time, it is hoped that if possible, you encourage and prioritize your child’s participation.

We look forward to seeing you all there!

May Updates – Week 6

Wednesday, May 13th

Please note, Div. 4 students have been given the option to choose a lit circle book (or books) from the Maywood library. There is a process in place to make this a safe endeavour, so please have your child read how they can order books in Tuesday, May 12th Daily Message (SharePoint page).

I also wanted to share with you some of the rocks students have been painting. I think they look so great! Have a look!

Good morning, friends!

I hope everyone had a lovely weekend celebrating the mom-people in their lives! I had a lovely day with my son, who made me a beautiful breakfast!

It’s been awhile since I updated Lanaway’s Lounge, as we have moved over to Teams more fully for all of our updates, assignments, and communication. Please view our class Team through your child’s account. Our SharePoint page continues to house my Daily Messages to students, while the Team page has all the channels where various work and conversations happen. Lit circle chats and coordination continues in the individual book channels, while FLEX activities are posted to the FLEX channel. Please try to avoid “sharing” homework via email, but rather through the “assignment” page, as I find it easier to track homework completion that way!

Here is this week’s Home Learning Plan for Week6, also found in Files in the Team site.

This week, we are wrapping up our Science conclusions, which marks the beginning of the end for this work. Stay tuned for instructions on how we will be presenting our investigations to the class. We’ll be using SWAY for this.

We will be turning our attention to Social Studies. View assignments in the “Assignments” page!

Watch the video from the Maywood staff to remind you about the things you can do together as a family during these challenging times.  Click on the link:  https://youtu.be/9auxJN3Awwk

We hope that you will be inspired to do some fun things together as a family to care for each other.  Post a picture of you and your family with the caption “Together we can…” and tag @maywoodSD41 (#togetherwecan) or e-mail to maywood.info@burnabyschools.ca.
