My Experience Writing a Book (So Far)

Hello, reader. My name is Afnaan. I live on Earth, in the solar system, Milky Way Galaxy, in the vast cosmos of the universe. I am writing a novel called “The RuneScape”. The first thing you should know about writing a book is that it is quite difficult coming up with original ideas. If you have difficulty with that, I feel your pain. The way I came up with the concept of the RuneScape is first of all, I brainstormed. I failed to come up with an idea using that method (Brain-puking all my thoughts onto a lined piece of paper), so I tried the next best thing. I grabbed my books from my bookshelf and sorted them into alphabetical order (I’m not weird, I just think clearly when I do that). As I was sorting, a brilliant idea sprung from my highly logical, non-creative brain. Why don’t I just take inspiration from my favourite books? I thought. I found my favourite books (Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling, Maze Runner by James Dashner, Percy Jackson by Rick Riordan, and Legend by Marie Lu) from my neatly placed and organised pile of books (Not to brag) on my desk and read through those books again. Yes, I had that much time, because I had finished all of my math homework from the day before. I took some good ideas and plot-lines from the books and added my thoughts and finally reached a conclusion. I finally had a solid plot for my book! (Yay!)

I needed to inaugurate (Start) typing before the thoughts disappeared from my head in a puff of smoke. So, I grabbed my laptop and opened a word document and started writing. “Jack hated his life. He was orphaned when his mother and father disappeared mysteriously and never reappeared.”  “He had planned for ages to escape BIG HEARTS orphanage. With its dusty walls, creaky floors, and horrible mistresses.” I learned that you have you be very descriptive and paint a picture in the minds of your readers (And don’t use fancy words so that your readers don’t have to search up the meanings on Google every five seconds).

Fonts! Yay fonts! My favourite part of writing a book is choosing the font. For the title, you can use pretty much any font you want. But for the actual writing piece you have to use: Aster, Cambria, Cambria Math, or Bell MT. It’s best to use these fonts because they are distinctive and easy to read.

Last of all, you absolutely cannot write a book on your own. Keep writing, keep working, keep developing, but you will always need help in one of these areas: Writing, Illustrating (If you want to), the Cover art, and Publishing. Keep this in mind if you plan to be “Cool and independent” (Wow, I can’t believe I said that).

I hope you enjoyed reading my blog. I hope all of the people who desire to be an author found this at least a little bit helpful. I wish you a good day!

Blog#12 How I deal with stress

The 2 things I mostly do when I’m stressed is cool off and breath but I do have other strategies that I use.

When I’m dealing with stress and it doesn’t involve a friend or in other words a conflict I like to put on my headphones, play some songs in my playlist, and pretty much just relax. This helps me because I really love music to play, to sing, and to listen, just listening to songs makes me way more relax than sitting there doing nothing.

When I’m really stressed and I feel that I’m going to explode I know 2 people that will understand and that had gone through this type of problems before: my parents, I feel that when I talk to my mom or my dad I feel that I’m not the only one that has gone through something stressful and difficult and that make me feel way better.

In conclusion I feel that being by myself and talking to the people that understand could really help me relax and calm down if I’m stressed out. Maybe you can try these 2 thing to help you in difficult times.

Blog #12: My Ways of Getting Through Stress

Every once in a while you end up having stress, but it can be for any particular reason. My main reason for the confinement of stress is homework. Homework has occupied an excessive amount of time from me for almost every day. Why I have stress with homework is because I don’t want to get in any trouble by not doing it or forgetting to do it. What I do is plan ahead and I always try not to procrastinate, because what happens for me is I end up sleeping very late, and when I sleep late, I end up waking up late as well.
At other times, you just don’t have time to do it, because maybe you have an extracurricular or an after school activity, so what you should do is prearrange when you will do your homework, do some of it on one day and others on another, so that if you forget -which is a 50/50 percent chance- you won’t be doing them all on the same day, while staying up.
If other stress that come into your mind isn’t about homework, but instead are about your feeling then maybe you should take time to cool off, sometimes when I just got into a disagreement with someone, I usually would take time for myself, contemplate about what happened and think it through. For example consider the other person’s feelings, try to think in their perspective. Or maybe, you don’t care about their perspective because you’re just mad and depressed; thinking will also help in this scenario. Everyone has different strategies; all you need to do is try them.

Everything You Need To Know About The Gym Leaders in Pokémon Platinum!

If you visited this blog then you probably have Pokémon Platinum or simply just want to know more about the Gym Leaders in Sinnoh, either way you’ll find all the information you need in this handy blog.

Let’s start off with Roark, as a rock-type gym leader and a miner at the Oreburgh Mines, Roark rocks! Roark is the first gym leader in Pokémon Platinum and his gym is located in Oreburgh City. Roark is also the son of Byron and he has a Level 14 Geodude, a Level 14 Onix, and a Level 15 Cranidos. If you beat him you will be able to use HM06 Rock Smash and he will give you a TM as well.

Next up is Gardenia, (the lady of blooming plants and flowers). She is also the guardian of the Eterna Forest and a Grass-type expert. Her gym is in Eterna City as you may have guessed, and her Pokémon are Roserade, Cherrim, and Turtwig. If you manage to win against her grassy team, then you will be able to use HM01 Cut and she will also give you a TM too.

The third gym leader in Pokémon Platinum is Fantina, (the soulful dancer) and her gym is in Hearthome City. Fantina’s specialty is Ghost-type Pokémon and her Pokémon are Duskull, Haunter, and Mismagius. If you can beat her spooky team, then you will be able to use HM05 Defog and she will also give you a TM and the Relic Badge. She also occasionally visits the Lost Tower in Solaceon Town.

Up next is Maylene, (the barefoot runner) she is the gym leader of Veilstone City and her Pokémon are Meditite, Machoke, and Lucario. Her Pokémon can really pack a punch, so try to beat her quickly using Ghost, Psychic, Flying, and/or Fire- type Pokémon. After you defeat her, she will award you with the Cobble Badge and you will be able to fly back to any Pokémon Centre you want to go to with HM02 Fly. She will also give you a TM, just like all the other Gym Leaders have before her. Her specialty is Fighting-type Pokémon as you may have guessed by now.

Crash! Crash! Crasher Wake! Put out the fire! Crasher Wake! As a wrestler, poet, and Gym Leader, Wake sure is a tough guy! His gym is in Pastoria city, and his Pokémon are Gyarados, Quagsire, and Floatzel. Wake will give you the Fen Badge and a TM, if you can beat his watery team and you will also be able to use HM03 Surf. Wake is also the protector of the Pastoria Great Marsh.

The sixth gym leader in Sinnoh is Byron, a miner and father of Roark. Byron is also friends with Riley (the guardian of Iron Island) and he is a user of Steel-type Pokémon. He is the Gym Leader of Canalave city (you can get there by surfing) and his Pokémon are Magneton, Steelix, and Bastiodon. If you can get past his iron defense, he will award you with the Mine Badge and a TM. After you beat Byron you will also be able to use HM04 Strength.

The seventh gym leader in Pokémon Platinum is Candice (the diamond dust girl).Candice is also the leader of the not dressed for the weather girl trio and the Gym Leader of Snowpoint City. Her Pokémon are Abomasnow, Weaville, Piloswine, and Froslass and she will hand you the Icicle Badge and a TM, if you can beat her snowy team. You will also be able to use HM08 Rock Climb after you beat her.

The last Gym Leader in Pokémon Platinum is Volkner (the electricity guy and doubles battle partner). Volkner is also a friend of Flint and the Gym Leader of Sunyshore city, and his Pokémon are Electivire, Jolteon, Raichu, and Luxray, his team will really shock you so hit them back with powerful Rock or Ground- type attacks. Volkner specializes in Electric-type Pokémon and he award you the Beacon Badge and a TM after you beat his team and you will also be able to use HM07 Waterfall.

Now that you’ve beaten all the Gym Leaders you are ready to challenge the Elite Four and the Champion. You will have some tough battles ahead but if you can persevere through them with your Pokémon then you will truly be a Pokémon Champion.

Gavin
