“Now here is my secret. It is only with one’s heart that one can see clearly. What is essential is invisible to the eye” – Antoine de Saint Exupéry
Jack is August’s best friend, but it was hard for him because him being friends with August affects his reputation. Jack was still there for August, besides his mistakes, he is still a good friend. In my opinion, this is what the quote is about. “It is only with one’s heart that one can see clearly”
I believe that this quote suits Jack’s section very well, because it fits the situation that’s between August and him, as in their friendship with one another. The “One’s Heart” could be possibly representing Jack. Jack sees clearly that August could be a good friend, a friend who always got your back and have a sense of humor. Jack has a heart, unlike Julian.
Near the beginning in the school year, he was “forced” to be friends with August. He declined the request that Mr.Tushman asked him, the invitation where he was suppose to show August around the school with Charlotte, and Julian. But then, Jack felt bad for him because his younger sibling was being rude to August, by calling him a “zombie.”
So Jack decided to tag along with August. He was supposedly to hang around August just to accompany him so August has someone to help him and chat with him. But he started to realize that he actually enjoyed staying with him, and that August was a great friend, and that people should give him a chance, like he did.
Jack gave August a chance, and it was worth it. He saw clearly that August was a nice, caring and friendly person. Jack has the heart to be friends with him, he stood up for him against Julian a few times in the past. That’s how I think the quote fits Jack. The invisible key was an item wasn’t anything physical. All it took was a few words, and spending time with a little while, just to realize how worth it was. In the end, Jack was one of the best friends that August could ever have.
