A New Year’s resolution is when people set goals in the New Year, which might make their lives better.

For, 2017 resolution is to wake up earlier so that I don’t feel so tired during the day.

The reasons because of this are I get too tired during the day and I feel like I wanted to sleep. Sometimes I can’t think very well if I am sleepy, just like the time I am writing this. Some ways I can achieve this goal are, go to sleep early or sleep longer. I am going to sleep at 9:3O instead after 1O:OO. I also will do stuff to wake me up, like drinking and eating.

That’s the reason and explanation of my New Year resolution, not being tired.

My 2017 New Year’s resolution Is to improve my English language skill. This is important because in Canada a lot of people speak English and my English is not that good yet. There are many people who  speaks English but I speak Filipino. If I speak my language to them they won’t be able to understand.

Many reasons why I need to learn English is because all of my friends won’t understand me. Since I am grade 6, I also need to improve my academic vocabulary so that I will be ready for high school.

My plan is to go to the library and read there because it is a quiet place . I will go there every week, hoping that I learn English before high school-college. Even though it will be hard i will try my best to achieve my goal throughout 2017.

Antoine de Saint-Exupery’s quote fits perfectly to Jack because sometimes in life you can’t see to believe with your eyes, you have to see with your heart to believe instead.
In my opinion I think that the quote from Antoine de Saint-Exupéry relates to Jack because he isn’t showing his true self all these years because of Julian. Everyone has a friend in life who secretly is just the person who says put downs to their friends, and I think that that is the sort of friend Julian is to Jack. So I think that whatever Jack wanted to do or say, Julian was the person to say ‘oh, that’s pretty bad’ or ‘seriously dude? That?’ to Jack. Which made Jack feel insecurities clouding his better judgement.
For example in the beginning of the year Jack was to befriend Auggie because Mr. Tushman asked him to, and he knew that he could have let him down if he didn’t do it. Jack understood so he was friends with Auggie, only because Mr. Tushman requested him to do so. Although as months and differences passed Jack got used to Auggie and he realized that he wasn’t friends with him because of Mr. Tushman but because he wanted to be friends with him for real.
I think Jack made the right decision being friends with Auggie, because Auggie supports him in his choices, comforts him at hard times, and laughs with him in funny moments. If Jack stayed with Julian instead of Auggie I think that maybe near the future, Jack would somewhat be like Julian. Being friends with Auggie instead of Julian was a good thing to do, because all in all Julian was being a bad influence towards Jack and his classmates.

I think this quote means is Jack doesn’t see what August looks like he only see kindness through August. Jack cares about what he does he doesn’t care about what August he looks like.

But Julian doesn’t see anything he only sees what august looks like. On the first chapter Julian kept asking “what happened to your face did it get burned down or something.

When Julian asked Jack “you will get popular with us when you don’t hang out with August” Jack response is “no, I don’t want to get popular without August”. Throughout this book some people who doesn’t like August like Henry, Miles, and Amus. They were at the grade fifth nature retreat. They help Jack and August with the grade sevens who bullied them in the woods.   But at the nature retreat they helped Jack and August with the grade seven who bullied the woods.

Julian only care that he want to get popular with his friend but he doesn’t know that august is a nice friend he is always mean to him.

My connection to this story is when I came to Maywood I did not know anyone. This person came up to me and say want to be friends. My response is “yes?” I just figured is that he doesn’t have enough friend like jack he want to be friends with August. But he was forced to hang out with him. A week later (I think) he really want to be friends with him.it took me 1 day only.

There are many “quotes” that we need to figure out. Let me tell you something “never judge what people looks like “and never try to bully it will turn out horrible. You will lose all of your friend when you bully.

Via is a selfless character in the novel Wonder. For example, she always helps August when he has a problem: Jack Will said some bad things to August that made August feel sad. He went home because he had a stomach-ache, too. Via got home and asked August if he was ok, August said he didn’t want to go to school anymore. At first, August yelled at her, but Via kept talking to him, even though he was been mean. Via talked to him and supported August to go to school.

Another way that Via shows her selfless character is that Via understands when her parents can’t watch her soccer games and her dance practices because August is homeschooled.

August always been sad because most people are scared of his face, every time Via tried to cheer him up. That why I think why Via is a selfless character in the book.

This year, I want to focus a little more on my music than I did last year. Last year I didn’t put my mind into it but this year that’s going to change.

I have a passion for music, every time I hear a song I sing along and really connect to what the words are trying to express. That’s why, this year I want to understand a little more than I already do and maybe even write my own song.

Even though, I’m a singer I still need to work on my vocal cords and my breathing methods. When I sing a song I also need to practice hitting the high notes like the song from Adele’s album.

I already asked my parents if I could join a singing group or club on the weekends or after school. They are still thinking about it because they don’t know who’s going to pick me up or how much it’s going to cost but I know that they are going to because they want me to follow my dreams no matter what.

I’ve been looking forward to this, since last year, I never got the chance or time to improve my music. I really do think I’m going to accomplish this goal. I’m really excited for this New Year!

Dear Grade 5 Student,

My name is Afnaan and I live in Burnaby, BC, and go to Maywood Community School.

This letter is about me. In my family, I have one sister whom is nine months old. My two parents are very kind and caring for me. My favourite thing to do is reading. Some of my favourite books are: Legend, Prodigy, and Champion by Marie Lu.

My favourite sports are: Hockey, Swimming, and Dodgeball. I like these games because they are fast-paced, interactive, and super fun!

One of my hobbies is writing, right now I’m working on my own book called “The RuneScape”. This book is about a young boy named Jax whom finds a hidden portal which leads him into another dimension called The RuneScape.

Some of my friends are: Hardy, Marko, Greg, Gavin, and Dave. They are smart, hilarious, and they always back me up when I’m in a difficult situation. I hope you think of me as a good person who you can talk with openly.
