Blog #8 New years resolution

A new year’s resolution is a goal that you set for yourself at the beginning of the year. For this year my new year’s resolution is to improve my reading skills and to understand what I am reading.

This is important because if I don’t understand what l am reading I will not know what happened in the story; or if there is a test I will not know what to write about. Two reasons why I chose this New Year resolution is because I want to understand what I am reading out of the books that I read. The second reason why I want to improve my readings skills is so that I’m ready for grade 7.

I will achieve my new year’s resolution by reading out loud at my house each night for 20 minutes. I will also try to read thicker books.

To understand what I’m reading, I can take notes while I am reading. By the end of the year I am hoping that I am able to read fluently and to understand what I am reading.

Blog #7 Repost1: How are Auggie and Via wiser beyond their years?

I think Auggie and Via are getting wiser beyond their years because the more they get older the more they mature.

I think Auggie is getting wiser because he is getting more confident in life. He is getting more confident in life and towards others because he is learning that not everybody is going to look at Auggie like his family does so he is prepared for all the hate and criticism.

On the October precept August was really thoughtful and mindful towards what he was saying. He put a lot of thought and enthusiasm towards his righting. I think that he really connected to the precept which made him wiser because he was thinking really hard on what to right

For the previous years of Auggie he never did anything as daring as school. School was probably the most bizarre idea in his curious little mind, but his parents did bring it up so that meant that he had to get more confident to face all the bullies at school. I think that made him wiser because he is trying something new. Whenever you try something you always have some sort of worry or doubt about yourself but that’s a good thing, it’s a good thing because whenever you have some sort of doubt are worry about yourself its telling you, you can’t do it but the only way you can overcome that is to “Just do it.” It made Auggie wise because he was thinking of all the thought that came into his head and he tried to put it behind him.

Auggie is wise because he is also really smart. In the previous years of him, he was home schooled so people thought that made him dumb. When he entered school he blew everybody away with his smarts. People were doubting him and criticizing him like “Your home schooled you can never catch up with us,” and” You are stupid.” He didn’t care what he said and he just blew everyone away, most importantly Jack will. So I think that made him wiser and more confident as a person and as a student.

I think Via is getting wiser throughout her years because she is slowly becoming more independent. She is getting more independent each year she grows up, for example a few years back she didn’t need her parents to help her do her homework or anything, a couple weeks ago she took the subway by herself with nobody. When she is doing all these things like a women she needs to be wise when she is doing anything. For example she is walking to the subway then somebody offers her drugs she needs to know that it’s wrong to accept it and just walk away.

Another reason why Via is getting wiser is that she doesn’t have any close friends that can hold her down. I think this because when you have friends that are really annoying it’s really hard to focus on what you need to do and not get distracted. I personally think that I can work with people that make that talk really loud because sometimes they make me laugh.

I think Auggie and via are becoming wiser beyond their years because of how much courage they gained and how independent they got, and you know what you say The more you grow the more you know!

Blog#7 How is Via Wiser By Their Years

Two things why Via is wiser than Auggie. The first reason, why Via is wiser than Auggie is she is more independent than Auggie. The second reason is that she is much older than Auggie.

Via is wiser because she is more independent than Auggie. Two time when she was independent was when she went back to school she saw her friends. But she saw them both differently from last year. They`re hairs both changed. I’m pretty sure they dyed their hairs. Also they were wearing different cloths than what they normally wore. She also knew that they were hanging out together without her. The independent part about that was she didn’t tell he mom or dad about it.

The second time when via was independent was when her grandma died. Her grandma is one of the most important person in her life because she was the one who would always go out with her if she had a concert, wanted to go somewhere with her, wanted to get something. She is also the only person that she talks with except her friends. Her grandma is also the only one she shares what happens to her. That’s why her grandma is important to Via. The independent part about that is that she has no one to show her performance to, go out with somewhere with, to get something with, and to share what happened to her with. Her parents could go out with her but they are too busy with Auggies surgeries and about his new school.

The last reason why via is wiser than Auggie is because she is much older than Auggie. That means she has to do more chores and she also has to do more work for certain stuff.

Those are the two reasons why I think Via is a little bit wiser than Auggie.

Blog #7: How is Via wiser beyond her years?

There are many reasons why I think Via is wiser than her years. She is serious about important things. She knows what things are important and what is petty.

She is selfless. She thought she is not important at all, other people are more important than her. She understands when her parents can’t watch her soccer games because they need to care about August. She always helps August, cheering him up when he had a problem.

She is insightful. When Jack Will said some bad things to August and August was upset, she knew how August felt and she tried to help him. Now you see why I think Via is wiser than her years?

Blog #6/The October Precept

I think that Mr. Brown’s October precept means a lot to Auggie because his face had to go through a lot of surgeries when he was younger so now his cheeks always droop down and he has this hole on the top of the inside of his mouth that makes it look like he eats like a turtle. Also lots of kids tease him,(i.e. Julian saying that Auggie’s face looks like Darth Sidious) but in his heart he knows that he is an ordinary boy who likes to play video games, eat pizza, and eat ice cream just like any other kid. That’s why this particular precept is really close to Auggie’s heart, he knows that what you do(ex. Your deeds) are way, way, way more important than what you look like, after all, everyone looks different and everyone is different .That’s what makes us all unique and who would want a world where everyone is the same? Don’t forget that just because someone is disabled, has gone through surgeries, or looks different from other kids doesn’t mean that they are any less capable or determined than others are. Remember Terry Fox who had both cancer and a prosthetic leg? That didn’t stop him from running the Marathon of Hope did it? So your deeds are like monuments, small stones if they were small deeds and humongous statues set up to remember heroes who did a lot of good deeds for others. Doing good deeds are really important because just a little deed like holding a door for an elder can make their day just a bit better and if everyone does good deeds for others than the world be a better place for everyone and eventually that kindness will return to you. Monuments are set up to preserve the memories of people and the good deeds you do will be remembered in someone’s mind too.

It contributes to one of the themes of Wonder because Auggie knows that doing good deeds for others is really important and so far in this book lots of people have been doing good deeds for Auggie. For example, even though Summer knows her friends won’t approve he still went to sit with him. That’s partly because she felt sorry for him but also because she wanted to be kind to him. Also, up to now Jack has always been nice to Auggie and played with him even though Jack already has a lot of friends. Last but not least Via has always been really nice to Auggie. So that’s why I THINK DOING GOOD THINGS FOR OTHERS and being kind for others is one of the themes of Wonder.

Blog #9: Jack’s Perspective

“Now here is my secret. It is only with one’s heart that one can see clearly. What is essential is invisible to the eye.”-Antoine de Saint-Exupery

I think this quote is related to Jack because he does not care about how August looks like. Jack only cares about what others do and think about.

I think Jack only cares about what others do and think because of what has already happened in the story; Jack said before that he was getting use of how August face looks like. He also talked about how he would rather be friends with August instead of Julian, Henry, and Miles right before he said that he regretted what he said to Julian and Julian’s parents that he would kill himself if he was August.

But Julian is the opposite. He does care about how August looks like. But he doesn’t know that August is a really nice friend.

Julian does not know that August is a nice friend because he is always rude about how his face looks like. An example of when this happened was near of the beginning of the book when Julian ask “what happened to your face, were you in a fire accident?” Another example of when this happened was when Julian said that he looked like Darth Sidious.

Another reason why Julian doesn’t know that August is a nice friend is because he doesn’t even try to talk to him or try to get to know him better.

These are some reason why this quote is related to Jack and not to Julian. This quote is not related to Julian because he judges about how others look like. He is also very rude to others. This quote is related to Jack because he does not care about how others look; he only cares about what they do and think about.

New Year’s Resolution

I always liked writing since grade 1 it was always fun for me to write and draw a picture along with it. My grammar was always bad I would understand that in grade 1 but not in grade 5! So my new year’s resolution is to fix my grammar.

My new year’s resolution is to try to improve my grammar. I would like to improve my grammar because I was getting bad grades in the past such as c- or c+. I am trying my best to improve my grammar this goal should be done by the end of 2017, this is a hard task for me because writing isn’t my best ability. Some of my lamp posts would be to practice writing at home for 15 minutes every week day. Or get a journal to write in or I could try writing tests to test my grammar or my speed in writing, this could affect my homework schedule by eating into my time so I will have no time to do my actual homework. I could try to reduce my time writing so I will have to time to finish my homework.

I am look at my friends work to get inspiration for my writing sometimes I have trouble coming up with ideas so I will borrow ideas to take suggestions by other people. This can sometimes help me or effect my work, I don’t like when a teacher points out that me and my friends work are quite similar. This has happened twice in my life and I would always have to explain that I have trouble writing and I borrow ideas from my friends but I always ask permission before borrowing their ideas. So I would like to try to fix my grammar, get better writing speed and stop borrowing ideas from fiends. Thanks for reading my article

Blog #9: Jack’s Perspective

The quote in Jack’s perspective is, “Now here is my secret, it is only with one’s heart that one can see clearly. What is essential is invisible to the eye.” -Antoine de Saint-Exupery.

I think this quote relates to Jack and Auggie because of what they have been through together. I think it means a lot about Auggie because people always see Auggie through his face and they don’t really get to know him, some people don’t even want to get near him because of how weird his face looks. It gets so extreme at some points where they start to bully him and send him mean letters. The only people who see him in a friend type of way is Jack and Summer, but even jack was bullying him at some point.

There was a time in Halloween where Jack was making fun of Auggie. He made fun of him by saying, “Oh if I was Auggie I would kill myself” And “I don’t ever want to be like Auggie.” He probably wouldn’t have said that if he knew Auggie was there, but since Auggie came as a Bloody scream he thought that it was safe to make fun of him, but it wasn’t. It wasn’t safe because true friends never make fun of each other no matter what. Jack probably said those stuff because he was influenced by Julian, Henry and Miles.

I think this taught Jack a really big lesson about friendship and loyalty. He learned that it doesn’t matter if other friends are making fun of him because of Auggie’s facial disorder. He knows that as long as he sticks to being loyal to someone, they will be loyal back!

When they went to the camp Auggie and Jack got ambushed by these students from other schools, they were talking trash about August’s face, After a while Auggie got pushed by them and jack was there to stand up for him. When jack was standing up for Auggie Miles, Henry and Amos showed up to stand up for both Jack and Auggie. At that moment Henry, Miles and Amos didn’t care about Auggie’s face, they were tired of putting him to the side and bullying him so at that moment the they didn’t care about his face and they just stood up for him and Jack.

This proves that there are people in this world who have a heart and care about people more than their face and appearance. The quote really lives up to its name because the people who really care about anyone, won’t care about someone’s looks. This is why I think Jack and Auggie really live up to this quote because of what they’ve been through!

Skating!

My new class and I went to The Robson Square ice rink! It was a little weird mostly cause I can’t skate, but I learned pretty quick. Yeah I am in Stride if you forgot so yeah! I am talking with my friends in Messenger. I made lots of new friends! Oh yeah did you know that there is a Gary Paulsen book of what would happen if Brian in Hatchet was never saved. Awesome book! It is called Brian’s Winter. I’m also wondering when is your Pro D day because if it is not in Febuary 17 I can visit!

Jack’s Perspective Blog #9

“Now here is my secret. It is only one’s that one can see clearly what is essential is invisible to the eye.”

-Antoine Saint Exupery

I think why Jack`s Perspective is connected with this quote, because when Jack said bad stuff about August to Julian and his friends, to stop teasing him that he was hanging out with August. Jack said he would like to hang out with August instead of Julian and his friends.

He can’t defend himself because from Julian, Henry and Miles. Even though he didn’t mean it and regrets it, to say something mean about August, August heard it and felt hurt and thought that Jack wasn’t His friend and that Mr. Tushmen told him to be his friend, when he heard it August felt hurt. Jack didn’t know August heard and saw him, say that we would die if he looked like him. Julian just wants to stay popular and doesn’t care about August. Jack wants to be friends with August because he’s fun.

Jack proved to Julian that he would like to be with August when he punched Julian on the face. Julian created a plague against August and Jack. Eventually people start to not care about the plague and only Julian and his friends. But sooner his friends came to help Jack and August from Grade 7 bullies. Julian only cares about what he feels and not what other people feel. Julian doesn’t know that August is a good friend because he doesn’t try to be nice to him. August didn’t know Jack didn’t mean it and was just doing it to stop Julian and his friends from teasing him, because in Jack`s heart he is a friend of August.

That’s why I think Jack is connected to this quote.
